Is it possible to have a computer case in which everything in it is completely liquid cooled, so the entire case can be sealed air-tight and no cleaning/dusting is needed?

In the configurator, what does it mean when it says Hydrolux cooling (chipset)? Does that mean that the motherboard is cooled in addition to the CPU? What about the RAM?

Hi funeralpyre88,

Yes you can have a case with all the active components liquid cooled. But you can not seal it air tight. The liquid cooling requires fans with radiators and they must blow air in or out of the case. Some cases use filters on the radiators/fans that greatly reduce the dust. The Hydrolux cooling is usually used for advanced liquid cooling. If you look at the offering of the Hydrolux cooling you will see you can get your CPU, GPU/GPUs and chip set liquid cooled. The memory is usually air cooled but there is a fan set available if addition cooling is wanted.

Keeping a computer relative dust free is not a lot of work if you keep on top of it.

There are a couple things:

1) There is an expectation with high-end motherboards that there is at least minimal air flow over it

2) Liquid cooling flows a liquid over the components to cools it and dissipates the heat at a raditator.  The radiators need air flowing through them to take the heat out of the liquid cooling loop

So, there are a couple of options for you:

1) Get a case with a set of filters incorporated into it; you can go as far as special ordering a Silverstone MM01 case with HEPA filters

2) Get a steel case you can add magnetic filters (e.g. Demciflex filters)

3) You can get a computer that is completely passively cooled (like Streamcom); this will limit the PSU to no more than 65W or less and something like the upcoming NVIDIA GTX 950 with a passive cooler on it

4) You go the rugged industrial computer route and get a conduction cooled single board computer with a conduction cooled chassis that you'd bolt up to a conducting surface that can radiate and convect away the hear to the surrounding sufficiently; a pure conduction cooled set-up will limit you to around 25W total power for the SBC.

Hi funeralpyre88,

You haven't told us what performance you are expecting and your budget. I suggest you take a look at the Corsair Obsidian Series cases from DS. They are steel cases. The DS Slade uses the Obsidian 550D case. DS also offers the 450D Coridium case as an option with several of their builds. Or you could special order a Obsidian 750D if you want a full tower case. All of these cases have filters. I don't think the Coridium has filters on the front fans? You can see all of these cases HERE.

I want to get an Apollo ~ $3000 but I want fan filters on it also. and my question about the air-tight liquid-cooled chassis was mostly just my imagination i wasn't really serious about it.

If you go to the link shown in a previous post, Demciflex, it has a package of filters specifically for the Graphite 760T case for $43, which is the Apollo default case.  I haven't used their filters, so can't say how effective they are.   Doubtful it'll block all dust, but would be better than the stock setup.  Also not sure how the filters would effect airflow.

I wonder if I could pay DS to install them for me and make sure the airflow is fine?

DS is a custom builder and would probably do it.  But, they'll charge extra for the part, special ordering, etc.  Or you order it an send it to them.  They would have to quote you a price.

Edit... I would think installing them would be pretty easy.  You can email the filter's site and ask them what's involved.
