    Posted: 25 Jun 2012 at 3:41pm
Hey guys, this may be a dumb question but I need to get this straight in my head. The X79 Sabertooth is a Quad Channel board with 8 dimm slots holding up to 32 GBs of RAM. I was planning on using 8 GBs of RAM for my new build but would that mean I can only use (2 X 4GB)? Meaning two dimm slots with 2 4GB cards? The reason I ask this is because on the Asus website it has qualified memory listings that show (2 X 4GB) for use of 8GB of RAM. Can I only use 4 GB of RAM per slot and if that is the case, would it mean operating in dual channel rather than quad channel using only 2 slots?

Help me Obi-wan, your my only hope!

I believe you need to fill at least 4   slots for quad channel ram.      Otherwise you take a hit in memory bandwidth.     I would suggest 4x4 Gb sticks.

You need to fill up your memory slots in either a 4 slot configuration or 8 slot. 4x4GB is best.
