Topic: Monitors Posted: 26 Jun 2016 at 5:56pm |
I have a DS rig running two 980 atm...I'm using a 5 year old monitor. One thing I've noticed is when I'm getting over 60 fps my monitor seems to shutter a tad, and when I use v-sync...well that makes it feel a bit laggy. So from what I gather it's time for an upgrade. Now when it comes to monitors I haven't bought one in a very long time. So when it comes to them I just have a few questions I'd trust more coming from the people who helped me build my computer on the forums.
144hz is the next step up from what I can see and you want one with G sync ? Also can you really notice a difference between 1920x1080 , 2560 x 1440 resolution then even 4 k? I have no stores near me to see any demos..id like not to spend a crap ton but it seems like they are all getting pretty costly...and quick tips or models you guys use or like? Thanks for any info |

Higher res = more details in the image = much better image quality aka better it looks.
do you noitce a difference in 720p and 1080P ? well the difference is so much more between 1080p and 4k. G-Sync for nvidia. Right now best image quality is in an IPS panel but they come in 60Hz right now, we are waiting on this 4k ips 144hz but who knows when it will be actually out. Otherwise for faster refresher rate you are stuck with a TN panel which is inferior but has higher refresh rate giving you smoother then 60fps ability. At 4k some games that don't use sli may give you trouble, and want more gpu power then the 980. Edited by DST4ME - 26 Jun 2016 at 7:37pm |

IPS being only 60Hz isn't really a deal killer for me. I love my new Asus MX25AQ......

Not a killer for me either I prefer IPS, but IPS and 144Hz would be great too

so far the Acer Predator XB271HU 27" 144Hz (native)/165Hz (overclocked) IPS w/G-Sync is the best monitor i've tried lately. that list includes and Asus PG34Q ultra wide and an Acer Predator 32" 4K G-Sync within the past 60 days.

Ya the IPS + 144Hz = greatness. The other 2 have a much lower refresh rate so they should not look as good in moving situations.
Do you own a Predatro XB271HU 27" db188? only if it was in 4k. Edited by DST4ME - 26 Jun 2016 at 10:56pm |

yup. it's my personal/main monitor. i've got an old Asus 23" TN 120Hz for monitoring and surfing the net alongside it. i haven't run it faster than the native 144 Hz as of yet. no problems/no complaints with it so far. The Division still kicks the hell out of my hardware, so even with 2x980ti's i had to lower settings some on this 2K monitor in order to keep FPS above 60 at all times. this game is the biggest bastard of all current graphics-taxing games currently on the market. i've had crashes to desktop during the hot and heavy action inside incursions while trying to run this game maxed out. the Ti's just can't handle it.

it's the nicest i've ever owned. i will offer this advice to anyone getting one or more of these newer Pascal cards: they are display port 1.3/1.4 ready, and displays are coming in the new year that will also feature display port 1.3/1.4. that means you can finally get 2K Ultra Wides natively at 120Hz+ and 4K monitors at 120Hz. these screens are coming throughout next year, some in the 1st quarter. since i'm on 980ti's my Acer Predator is the best (i feel) that i can get on my technology. i won't be upgrading for a while. but if i just built a new system around Pascal, i'd wait for a dp 1.3/1.4 monitor that can do over 100Hz natively.

So if one has x3 980Tis, would a GPU upgrade still be needed for the 2017 monitors with dp 1.3/1.4?

Depends on your games, and what res.
the 980ti is about 5 or so fps behind the 1070. So I think you should be ok with most stuff. |

Ahhh blahh. I forgot about the compatibility. I was thinking of upgrading anyway and thus once a 4K monitor comes out that I want (over 32"; >100MHZ; IPS or IGZO and GSync), I'll do it then - lol. I appreciate both your help!!
