ok 70c on a load is like the max temp for a q9650 right? anything above that will burn up the chip.or is volts more a killer than temp?

85*C core temp is good, with 90*C being my personal max.

You can go as high as you want on voltage provided you can keep it cool under full load with Prime95 or LinX.

I don't think the great debate on volts vs. temp kills the chip quicker has ever had a definite conclusion.

Even if the chip dies, it is still covered under warranty provided you originally ordered overclocking.

Wow that is a good chip to have a vcore that low for 4GHz.  Temps are very good...

Go higher!  You should be able to hit 4.2, maybe 4.4GHz

By the way ignore that System temperature, it has never reported right in HWMonitor.

70*C is cold for me.  Most likely you will need an increase in CPU Vcore, maybe an increase in FSB Voltage.

Are you slowly increasing the FSB?  Try 1800 FSB without changing anything else first.  Make sure your RAM is still at the rated speed or lower if you are linking the FSB and RAM

Post your current BIOS settings for CPU Vcore, FSB Voltage, MCP Voltage, SPP Voltage.

Set the CPU Vcore to 1.4v, run a test and see if that gives you any issues.  If not, go higher.  If so, then set it back to 1.35v and increase the FSB Voltage to 1.35v.  If that works go higher, if not increase the CPU Vcore to 1.375-1.4 and try testing again.
