Hello, I have recently purchased my first desktop from Digital Storm. I don't really know much about computers. I want to purchase and install another internal hard drive, at least 6TB. I have seen a few YouTube videos and they state that I need to have enough power to supply the new hard drive as well as the correct cable for installation. How do I find out if there is enough power? Do you have any recommendations for good internal hard drives?

Hard drives do not use a terrible amount of power. At idle they only use a few watts to keep the drive spinning and the absolute maximum power draw for high performance drives is below 25 Watts. SSDs use even less power: a tiny fraction of a percent of a Watt at idle and 3-4 Watts at load.
You have enough power to add a few (4-6) Hard Disk Drives to your system. I'm guessing there will be a free SATA power connector available on the cable that connects to the SSD, HDD, and Blu-ray drive already installed in your machine, so you'll only need a SATA data cable to connect the new drive to the motherboard. |
