Topic: Need help upgrading to SSD Posted: 18 Nov 2017 at 7:03am |
Before posting, I seached through the forums and found that the best SSD would be
Samsung 850 PRO - 512GB - 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-7KE512BW) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LF10KTO?ref=emc_b_5_i Samsung 850 EVO 1TB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E1T0B/AM) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OBRFFAS?ref=emc_b_5_i What's the difference between the two? Also I haven't opened up my Vanquish bought in 2013 so I don't really know what entails. I googled how a mobo, sata port and power port looks. Is there anything to be aware of. I went through my product detail and my power supply is a 'corsair cx430' and mobo is ASUS ASUS H81M-E (Intel H81 Chipset). Can my computer actually upgrade to SSD? Does it have the necessary ports/power supply, etc? Edited by CrazyandLazy - 18 Nov 2017 at 7:59am |

I have a Vanquish 2 Ulitmate purchased around that time and have posted about an addition SSD in this thread. Perhaps some of your questions could be answered there.
Cheers. Edited by Snaike - 18 Nov 2017 at 7:48am |

The difference between the two is how the flash memory cells store data. The Pro is considered more durable, hence longevity, so comes with double the warranty. That said, the cheaper evo is more than adequate for the vast majority.

Yes you can upgrade to ssd, the pro gets my vote but as bp said the evo is ok too.

Ok, guys while I was waiting for the Thanksgiving sales, I opened up the mobo.
All the wires are tied tightly. Are there any extra power plugs to use to connect an extra drive (new SSD)? I am really a noob when it comes to comps so your help will be greatly appreciated. My comps insides look like this video below. https://youtu.be/lTouivtIm8A?t=292 |

Great video but please open the other side of the case and give us a pic of that please
you should have the power connector on the other side of the pc. the sata cables should be with the extra stuff you got (mobo manual, mobo extra wires etc. What is your mobo? Edited by DST4ME - 20 Nov 2017 at 10:34pm |

The Pro can transfer data 2GB/s until the drive is full. The EVO has a 15G buffer that stores write jobs and writes them in the background at a slower rate so the 1st 15G feels like it's 2G/s. The pro has my vote since I just bought one.
Never mind I thought this was NVME. My bad. Edited by Alci - 21 Nov 2017 at 6:00am |

My mobo is ASUS H81M-E (Intel H81 Chipset) (MATX). I am not really worried about the data connector or data ports on the mobo. I checked and there is an empty slot each for 6gb and 3gb. I am only concerned with the power supply cord. Not really sure if DS Vanquish 1 provides an extra outlet for power supply for an SSD upgrade. I am at work now but I will look at the other side of my computer when I get home. Even then I don't think it will help me since all the wires are tied up together and everything is hidden. I didn't see a free power supply plug to use when looking yesterday. |

That is why you post a pic here so we can help you, trust me there is a power connection, either one is already there or we connect one to a molex real quick and make one.

I think i see some options but I need to see a clear pic to tell.
Can you also give us a pic of the extra wires that came with your system and the side again, this time try and focus the lens on the connections, your second pic for example is if a free black connection but I can't make out which it is. At the very least I see a molex that is free in the 4th pic. So worst case scenario you get molex to sata power: Edited by DST4ME - 21 Nov 2017 at 6:59pm |

I found another hard drive power supply plug but it's on the same wire. In other words, there are two power supply plugs on the same line that could be used for hard drives. The question is, will it be safe to use both heads into 2 drives [1 HDD and 1 SSD], even though they run along the same wire?

It’s perfectly fine to use both connectors ganged to one psu output. Done all the time and designed for that usage.

Everything went well but the Windows authentication key.
I don't have a key. Digital Storm only provided a Windows CD. Do you guys know where the number is? |

Thanks. All done. My comp now takes around 10 seconds to boot. I am very pleased.
Games and multiplayer maps load really quickly as well. |
