Unless you are going to do high performance computing with several GPGPUs, I would not opt for the X99-WS board. The X99-A board will give you slightly better performance, lower power consumption, and be much cheaper. Same thing with the processor, I would opt for the i7-5820K. The power supply is significantly overkill; a 750W would be more than sufficient.

The enterprise class HDDs are no more reliable than consumer drives (long term studies show them to be actually a little bit less reliable, oddly enough). A robust solution is to get two consumer drives and mirror them in a RAID 1 configuration.

The 980Ti should handle many monitors, so that won't pose any issues. The blower fan should also keep case temperatures down as well.

The noise reduction will have DS tweak the fan profiles to be as quiet as possible during operation.

Thank you for your input. I was considering the X99-WS because it was advertised as better built (better components) to last longer.
Thanks for the info about the enterprise drives vs the consumer ones.

It does use a little bit higher quality components, but bad motherboards are very rare occurances these days.  The simplified design of a lower end motherboard may actually be more reliable as there are fewer component drivers, where a lot more issue arise from.

Just got an e-mail that my computer is at Stage 5. I am impressed with Digital Storm as they are testing the machine on Saturday night. I wonder how many shifts they have.

i think you mean running Windows remote desk top over your network by enabling (granting permission to bypass both computer's firewalls) it in your system settings.  all you need is for both computers to be turned on and be on both users lists.

go into "system properties" and select the "remote" tab, then check the box "allow remote assistance" and then below it select the option "allow connection only from computers running remote desktop with network level authentication".  click "select users" (if you're an admin on the system you current user account will automatically be added to the list of remote users.  otherwise, you'll need to add your account by clicking "add" and in the "select users or groups" dialog box do the following: to specify the search location, click "locations" and select the location you want to search.  in "enter the object names to select" type the name of the user you want to select and click ok.   the name will now be displayed in the remote users dialog box, you can now click ok and ok again.  make sure all sleep and hibernation is disabled (you can't connect otherwise).

to start remote desktop from the computer you want to work on just type "remote desktop connection" in the search box, then click on the result.  in the "computer box" type the name or ip address of the computer you want to connect to and then click "connect".

to get thru a firewall, control panel>system and security>click "allow a program thru firewall">click "change settings">check the box next to "remote desktop">click "ok"

Digital Storm is usually closed on weekends. They keep regular 9-5 business hours.

I do believe they ramped up the overtime to handle the "Back to school" rush and clear the backorders that inevitably happen this time of year.

In any case, the computer is another step closer to you!

Thanks for the reply. I am not thinking about running the XP computer remotely. I am thinking of somehow copying the entire XP machine (OS and programs)ands running it in virtual mode from within Windows 10 on my DS new computer.

there's a free tool to do what you want called, Disk2vhd from Microsoft's Windows Sysinternals.  here's a link that explains how it works: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/windows-and-office/convert-windows-xp-into-a-windows-7-virtual-machine-with-disk2vhd/

i'm not sure if there's a Win10 version.
