It appears your game is trying to run at a resolution that your monitor does not support. You might have changed game visual settings recently which are causing this. You might have to un-install and re-install the game to fix this, UNLESS, your game has a safe mode or something to start up the game in basic visual settings.

Also, is your monitor plugged into the video card, below rear fan, and not motherboard ports near the USB/audio ?

Use HWMONITOR to check your CPU core temps. Should be below mid 80c.

Restarts could be a bad power supply under the load of the gpu while gaming.

Check your ram by typing memory in Control Panel search box and running Diagnose memory.

Use Bluescreenview and Whocrashed to see if any info is given .

Whocrashed will open your crash logs after you run it, and a few lines down, give you a clue what caused the crash.   Run it after the next crash or restart. It might open an older log. Not easy to read but helps sometimes.

If there aren't any logs for Whocrashed to open, it could be the psu shutting down, then no log.

Try a new driver, or different one, for the 970.

Have you added any new hardware, especially external USB? Try unplugging any USB devices and try it. Some keyboards have been known to cause issues.

This happens with all games?

Could be a tough one to figure.

yea its pretty tricky to figure out because it could be so many things. i just took my comp apart to visually inspect all the insides and when i set it all up again. yanno so it could crash lol it loads the game up fine and i retried about 8 times and it didnt crash once. lmao i dont know what to think anymore. the problem all started like 4 months ago with all said problems. i just figured it was my gpu so just stopped playing games till i got a new one today. nothing else triggers whatever this problem is. other than joining any game. watch netflix browse the internet. and while not having a gpu i could do all and play the game on the motherboard integrated graphics. thats why i just figured it was a problem with my gpu. because on the mobo it didnt crash ever.

A bad video card was a good bet with igpu working. That rules out the ram, external devices, drives, etc. I would think.     Still could be the psu restarting under the load of the card.     Unfortunately, no good way to check it, just swapping it with another. Even the ' paper clip check' for psu doesn't check it under load.

Could be the motherboard. Does your mobo have another Pciex16 slot you can try the card in?

My bet is psu, but that's obviously a guess.

Eyeball the cabling from the psu to the video card, checking for pinched wires, tight bends, and tight connections at the psu if it's modulator . Do you have colored cable extensions ? If so, check their connections.

I have to take off. Hopefully when I check in tomorrow all is fixed.

will do. yea months ago when i was trouble shooting the problem when i put the card into the other pci slot it would have the same problem. everything would work fine will i loaded up the game. thats why i was pretty sure it was the gpu. switched to the mobo gpu saved up for 4 months and got a evga 970 and bam same problem but it didnt happen for maybe 2hours. now that i for sure know its not the gpu. it has to be the psu or maybe my i5 is just toast.

You've done it all.   Next up... Psu.   Bad CPU is a much longer shot.

My psu died after about 3 1/2 years.   No restarts, just shutting down in seconds.

Keep us posted. Good luck.

Hi Namek,

There was a suggestion that you load HWMonitor and check temps. I may have missed it but I don't see where you did that. Do you keep your radiators or coolers blown out? You have an older system and rads/CPU coolers can load up with dust. HWMonitor will tell you if that is your problem.

If you keep your rads/CPU coolers clean do you occasionally vacuum out your Power Supply. the exhaust screen on the PS can get really dirty over time blocking air flow through the PS.

hey frank. yea im sorry i forgot to mention that. yea i did. and the temps seems nominal. there not high there not low. one thing i did do tho that when i was putting my comp back together i used different power connectors to power my gpu and i also have the sides of the case off. the fans looks clean but i will make sure to just go in and clean away anything i can see. i just think its funny its working now. i install whocrashed and im waiting for the problem to happen again. i tried to simulate the problem about 10 times last night and each time it would load up successfully. il keep you guys posted and try to replicate it.

It's been working?   I have seen where turning off a pc and unplugging it from the wall, and then holding in the power on button for several seconds, actually fixes weird issues.  Its like a fault cleansing.  Maybe something similar happened.

Hope it stays fixed.
