Budget:below 2000

Firstly, I wanted to buy the vanquish 3 level 4 for $1600, but then I figured out it comes w/ the i5 4690k. But I do want an i7 4790k or so...

So I am here and wondering if it is possible that I can build one w/ all the same things as vanquish 3 level 4 but an i7 4790k instead of i5 4690k for DS...

Btw, it needs not to be 250G SSD, 120G is fine for me since I will only put the windows 10 in it..

the Vanquish line is a pre-configured quartet of computers that don't offer any customization.  DS has chosen components that allows them to offer these "budget" line of computers at certain price-performance points.  they used to offer the new Skylake procs in the level 4 until supplies ran out.  you can wait for the possibility of it coming back in the near future or you'll have to more than likely move to a more custom line to build in.

an Apollo stage 1 allows you to move down to 120GB Samsung EVO ssd, with a better cpu and still under $2k.

But I saw the posts and someone said the vanquish 3 level 4 that comes w/ i7 6700k has only gtx 970...

I don't know how to choose between i5 4690k+gtx980+8G and i7 6700k+gtx970+16G..

I5 4690k has to overclock to fully run gtx 980, I am being afraid of overclocking as it may cut down the life of the CPU...

the Vanquish 3 L4 comes with a 980, but if you're only gaming on a 1080p monitor you don't need a 980.  a 970 works just fine.

you also don't need 16GB of system ram either.  8GB is fine at that resolution.

i seriously doubt an I5 of that generation is bottlenecking a 980.

the "K series" of processors are designed to oc.  my I5-2500K is running strong after 4+years of being oc'd.  do it right and do it smart, find the point where it becomes unstable and gets too close to the recommended over voltage and then dial it back 1 or 2 steps for a 24/7 stable oc and with the proper cooling you're good to go.

I know almost nothing about overclocked And yeah, I am gonna play everything under 1080p.. So I should choose i7 6700k + gtx 970 +16G version? now the Vanquish 3 L4 comes w/ i5 4690k+gtx 980+8G RAM.. But later on it is gonna change to i7 6700k+gtx 970 +16G RAM

there's good guides on the internets, bud.  no reason to buy a K-model if you never intend to oc, save yourself the extra $20 and buy a Big Mac or something with it Wink

Do I have to oc' by entering the BIOS to do that or there will be a software that comes w/ the Vanquish 3 to oc' by one step?

the motherboard has software that enables oc'ing from the os, but i prefer to do so from within the bios.  software can be hit or miss.  Asus has the best, the others not so much.

Thank you so much for helping!

One more last question :

I just want to buy a gaming computer to play GTA5 and Minecraft..

Does the Vanquish 3 L4 that comes w/ i7 6700k+gtx970+16G RAM satisfies my requirement?

I want to set High/Ultra High setting in GTA5 under 1080p and run it at 60FPS..

And use at least 256x texture packs as well as good shaders on minecraft.

Give me some suggestions! Thanks

I don't have GTA5 or Minecraft experience but my gtx 970 with older 2500k cpu and 8 gb ram runs Shadow of Mordor and Witcher 3 on max with no problem on 1080p.     Witcher 3 just has   Hairworks reduced. Still runs good with it on but fps are lower when I actually check.

I believe the Vanquish 4 lvl 4 with Skylake had 8gb ram. All you need.

Here's a paste of the original changes to Vanquish 4 lvl 4 from Alex....

Today we have made the following changes to the VANQUISH line:

1. Replaced Windows 8.1 with Windows 10 on all Level 1 - Level 4 configurations.

2. Replaced the VANQUISH 3 Level 4 with the new VANQUISH 4 Level 4 (Skylake Edition).

The new VANQUISH 4 Level 4 has the following changes while still being at the same $1,599 price point:

- i7 6700K CPU
- 16GB DDR4 2666MHz Memory
- Z170 Chipset Motherboard
- GTX 970 Graphics Card
- LED Internal Lighting
- CPU Overclock of 4.4GHz

Please Note, the previous Level 4 VANQUISH 3 was still a great system. It had a more powerful GTX 980 graphics card. However, due to customer feedback, we noticed customers would prefer to have an i7 CPU, more memory, and LED lighting and be happy with a GTX 970 at a $1,599 price.

Looks like 16gb ram.

Wow.. the difference between the Vanquish 2 and Vanquish 4, Ultimates is quite amazing:

Overclock
+8GB Ram
i7 v i5
Z170
Skylake

All for just a little more.

Don't get me wrong, I love my "budget beating beast", but it's nice to see the improvements DS has put on this entry level box.

I am definitely buying this version of Vanquish! 970 can hold almost everything under 1080p.. And I think I can upgrade the 970 to 980ti myself? 980ti is much better than 980
