I've started looking at an Aura too. Anyone want to help me with comparisons? I know(think) that the Aura is a little LESS for the same price as there is that big screen included, but I'm liking the "all in one" idea too.

Save some money and go with the 6800K instead of the 6850K. The motherboard cannot use any of the extra PCI-e lanes and the overclock should result in pretty much the same clock speeds.
There is only 1 M.2 slot, so if you want 2TB, you'll have to use a single 2TB M.2 card. I'd also recommend just going with the Windows 10 disc and not having the partition, if you want more space on the SSD. That 50GB becomes unuseable and is only needed when you need to reinstall Windows if the OS gets corrupt or some bad malware gets on it...at which point you can just use the disc to reload Windows (or you could drop both and use a USB thumbdrive). Otherwise, it looks good. |

Do you need 32gb ram ? If this is a gaming rig, then no, 16gb is plenty.
We are interested, but sometimes our real life gets in the way of hanging out here. The Bolt is a much better pick over an AIO like Aura, in my opinion. With Aura you get what you get in the monitor and if the screen dies or has color, pixel issues, your stuck with it. With Bolt you can research for the best monitor for your money. Thank you, that is what I was looking for. How about a 1TB M2 SSD and a 1TB SATA SSD?
Copy the difference between the 6800 and the 6850, will change that. And I wasn't clear on the 50GB "reserve" on the drives Will change that too. As well as the overall RAM from 32 to 16 GB. Thanks, Thanks!! Arne |

Those drives will work. I personally would opt for just SATA interface drives, the M.2 more for productivity than gaming. Don't get me wrong, the M.2 is many times faster without SATA restriction, but not sure it's worth it for loading OS and games.

The 50GB reserve just becomes a virtual second drive. Depending on how they configure it, it could be visible in the file explorer, but it might be invisible, too. They load up a copy of Windows into it, so if anything goes wrong in the other drive partition, there is a copy available to immediately wipe everything and start all over again. Personally, I can't justify allocating so much for a very seldom used thing and would rather have that space available for programs and files while relying on a disc or thumb drive for holding a copy of Windows.
And yes, a SATA SSD is perfectly fine. It looked like from your build that it was decidedly high-end, and with the down-selected processor, that would be close to offsetting the costs of going to a single 2TB M.2 drive. |

Thanks for the advice and insights!! I find it interesting that this "high end" build uses the Skylake (6000series) version of the processors while the lower build levels use the Kaby Lake (7000 series) processors. Something about the GTX 1080Ti requirements or what??
Anyway, looking forward to getting this ordered. Should be a pretty big "kick" in performance compared to my 2012 Bolt 1. Thanks again. |

The "high end" ones don't even have the Skylake architecture...they are still on the Broadwell architecture (used in the 5000 series chips) and are called Broadwell-E (given the 6000 moniker for the sake of appearances). The chips are derived from the server chips which trail consumer chips considerably, due to the need of extensive validation.
So you're aware, the Bolt X will be coming out shortly: http://www.digitalstorm.com/forums/building-another-unit-tidf29181-pidf314572-kwfaventum/. It doesn't have a disk drive, though. Edited by - 14 Mar 2017 at 1:49pm |
