Budget:
3500 - 4000

Expectations:
Hand 1440p for now, 4k in the future

Usage:
Gaming, Watching Video, some folding at home

Saved Ticket #:1299343

I chose the Corsair Air 540, the size is the closest I can get a SFF rig that I can run SLI 980 Ti's. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This would be my 4th DS rig, if it wasn't good, I would not be buying another here.

looks like you have it set up for a good air cooling build.  it should meet your needs.  the Strix cards will run about 650 watts under load and another 100 watts from the rest of the rig, so you'll be in the area of 90% load on your psu while gaming/folding. you might consider increasing to a 1000w model for more overhead (future upgrades, more overclock, etc.) but it's not needed.

psu's are at their best (most efficient) between 40-80% load, and at their worst (least efficient) at the extremes (low loads and high loads).  that 850W psu for example puts you at 88% under load (slightly outside its most efficient range), while the 1000W puts you at 75% (in the most efficient range of the psu).  every power supply will provide with its rated wattage, but the efficiency determines how much power from the wall has to be drawn to get there and how much that extra power gets turned into heat loss.  anyway, this is kind of a simplistic way of looking at it, but i'm sure you get the point.  also, i'm sure i've read somewhere that psu efficiency degrades over time (some sources recommend adding a 10-20 % overhead if you plan on not replacing the psu yearly.

Hi Mouseguard.... That is an excellent build.   Can tell you've been around for awhile.

If I was buying right now it would be the Air540.   Same for Noctua.   I am tempted to go AIO cooler for a change , never had it, but you just can't beat the air coolers reliability plus I like the look of it.

Keep us updated.

Edit.... Just me but I would throw in some lighting. It has the window for it.    Not the remote however.

Yeah bprat, I have had the Noctua in 2 of my 3 rigs so far. Custom loop in the other, I can barely hear this one run, my current rig. Which will be donated to my nephew when I get around to ordering it
