Topic: New Build - New Builder - Clueless Posted: 27 Aug 2016 at 7:01pm |
Hello Everyone: Did some research and found DS - I am not a computer expert, by any stretch of the imagination... I have put a ticket together - but I have no idea if it makes any "sense" - if it will be overly loud?
Budget: About 3K - the lower the better, but it is what it is... Expectations: A very fast PC that will meet my needs for many years (5-6 years, hopefully...) Usage: I am not a gamer. I am a photographer/videographer and spend a long part of my days using photoshop and related video editing tools. You will notice the hard drive storage needs in my ticket...I see that 2x storage is an option for the same size HD as the 1x storage. I assume that means (for instance) 2 3TB drives for 6 TB instead of 1 6 TB drive (and I further assume that a smaller drive is faster than the bigger drive (but is it noticeably that much faster)? Also, wouldn't having to navigate 4 separate hard drives be more annoying than navigating 2? Assuming that the SSD is not used for storage. And is RAID necessary? Your ticket number is leading to a $1300 system that is not yours can please post the correct ticket number so I can config it for you.
the HDD you have picked are a single drive: Storage Set 2: 1x Storage (6TB Seagate) means second hard drive = 6TB Drop the noise package its pointless, 90% of your noise will come from the gpus and the vortex is not quiet itself. you need to decide between noise and performance. To truly give you a quiet system you need to go LC on all parts and custom quiet fans on those parts, otherwise you are spending extra money and fooling yourself. If you want large file speeds you need to go with ssd or raid on hdds. Shop around for your monitor at newegg and amazon and see if you can get it for a better price. |

Thank you. Sorry - don't know how I screwed up the Order No. It is 1479550.
Performance is important... I'll drop the monitor... Get it elsewhere.. Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Edited by ManonaMission - 27 Aug 2016 at 8:03pm |

I'm making your hdd drives raid but if you don't need it then change it back to non raid but only go with western digital black edition or enterprise editions they have the best track record.
Click Image To Go To Configuration Page You have oc on the gpu, the loudest thing in your system is gonna be the gpu, with oc on it, it will be running warmer which means the fan will be on high more often which = more noise. Edited by DST4ME - 27 Aug 2016 at 8:34pm |

Is the OS boost worth it? Should I turn off the boost on the CPU or the GPU? For what I do, is it necessary?

Everything pointless was removed and everything that brings performance is added.
cpu is the brain of your system and photoshop uses it and ram the most, if your brain can think faster then everything goes faster. Thus cpu oc/boost brings forth the most performance gain. Make sure 32GB if enough ram for your use, for some it is and some need more. |

One more question: you said you made the hard drives RAID, but the build doesn't have any RAID options or a RAiD card. Is that correct?

My pleasure few more points.
Do not install Mcafee, instead get a lighter better anti virus like ESET (number 3 on the list) the warranty here is 3 year labor 1 year parts, so if you want higher part warranty raise the warranty. Edited by DST4ME - 27 Aug 2016 at 8:46pm |

I would never install mcafee - I usually use Avira or something of the sort...

Did you see my question about the RAID drives? You said you had configured RAID drives - but I'm not sure that it showed up on the build....

where it says 2 x 2TB hdd that is a raid. You can tell them if you want raid 0 for speed or 1 for mirroring. I left that options open for you, you need to pick under the hdd section where it says"RAID Card"
I assumed you wanted 0 but you know about assuming Personally if budget allows I would go ssd for storage, raid hdd is not as fast as ssd still. Edited by DST4ME - 27 Aug 2016 at 9:04pm |

SSD at that size is beyond my budget... Not sure that it makes that much of a difference for what I need it for...
As for making an assumption, it makes an ass out of u and out of sumption. :-) Thanks again and good night. |

Well if you are going raid it should be for speed, and that is where the ssd would kick arse, then there is 2 drives vs one drive, but budget always dictates, and if budget says no then we have to listen.
you can always go to ssd down the road when prices are better. My pleasure and good luck |
