Any help, advice, or opinions are appreciated here. I have a few questions to start off.

1.) How could my gaming experience benefit from choosing the Deluxe X79 or Extreme X79 MOBOs over the Sabertooth X79?

2.)How does my PSU look for this? What if I decide to upgrade to a GTX 690 4GB or SLI in the future?

3.)Which hard drive set do you recommend?

4.)Under the extreme cooling option which is best for this the (240mm radiator liquid CPU cooler) or the (Noctua NH-D14)? And why?

5.)Would choosing the Zalman performance fans with the Corsair Carbide 300R
chassis model I have selected actually be of any benefit versus the stock fans?

Hi iPhil...Welcome to the forums.

For gaming, the X79 platform will not be used.  That platform is for video editing, rendering, modeling etc. that can take advantage of the quad channel ram and 6 core cpu.

Here's a config to look at and I'll explain.

This has the HafX case, the best for an air cooled rig and with it you don't need the Zalman fan upgrade which are noisy.  The HafX case fans are large, turn slow and move lots of air quietly.

The Z77 mobo with i7-3770k chip is great for gaming.  The X79 is more money for no difference you'll ever see.

8GB of ram is all gaming can use.

The 1050HX psu is tops, has a 7 year warranty that tells of its quality and gives you headroom for future needs.

I dropped the Killer card.  I have never used but from all I've heard, it is a waste.

Added the sli, 2x gtx670.  This gives you the sli you mentioned, right up front, and will max out gaming on a 24" monitor at 1920x 1080.  The 680 is a great card but the 670's are lots cheaper for a 5-10% difference in gaming.

The Noctua D14 is tops in reliability and will work great with the oc'ing and the 3770k chip.  Not much to go wrong with a block of cooling fins. The 240mm Vortex is also very good but does have more that can go wrong.  Your choice of course.

For your budget, I added the 120GB SSD.  Gives you fast load times for Win7 OS and games.

This build for the same $$$ gives you better gaming, the SSD and the better  psu for the future and a great case.

See what you think and best of luck.Big%20SmileBig%20Smile

Hey thanks! looks great, makes sense. I didn't realize X79 was totally unnecessary for my needs. I'm glad I didn't just go ahead and blow that money away without posting here first. What is the benefit of two hard drives? Obviously I assume the 120GB SS will be strictly for gaming and the other for everything else?

Would my performance benefit from the 2000MHz RAM versus the 1600MHz version.

With two hard drives you can have your operating system and crucial apps on it to get a zippy user experience, and then place your data, movies, pictures on the storage drive.

There is a very, very small difference in performance between 1600Mhz and 2000MHz.

Those that have gone to SSD swear they'll never go back.   The OS and games initially  loads alot faster.  The SSD would be used for Win 7 OS, ggames you're using the most and the HDD would be for older games, music, pics, downloaded files, etc.   The SSD isn't needed, a HDD would work great without it, but if it's in the budget then go for it.

The faster memory isn't anything you will ever see.

Hope this helps.

Sounds sweet, so then when ordering my machine with the two hard drives will my OS come installed on my SSD automatically? Or do I have to write it in special instructions when ordering? In other words is it just the obvious to install WIN7 OS on the SSD and have the HDD leftover for music, apps, documents, junk...?

bprat when you say 8GB of RAM is all gaming can use... Can you explain or elaborate on that?

I'm not questioning you, just would love to understand why.

DS will put the OS on the SSD as long as it's Drive 1, listed first.  If you put the SSD in drive 2 by mistake they's probably call ya just to be sure.
8GB is just all that gaming can use or access.  More than that just sits there.  Some games can not use more than 4Gb.

I see, thank you guys bprat, Alex you've been so helpful. I'm trying to learn here, and on my own. But it's very easy to feel overwhelmed with technology constantly improving and changing.

What's the differences in MOBOs between the SABERTOOTH Z77, P8Z77-V DELUXE, and Maximus IV Extreme?

For most , the difference is the Deluxe has built in WiFi, so an additional wifi card isn't needed and the Extreme would be for those that want to tri-sli, 3x video cards.  There are more differences but you'd have to go into 'more info' or go to Asus website to get into detail and see if there's anything special you'd need.

For gaming without 3x gpu and wifi not needed then the sabertooth generally fits.

Okay. What's your opinion on stage two OCing of the CPU, is it safe? Would stage one suffice or is stage two noticeably better?

Same for video card OCing it seems like it's not popular would that shorten the life of the cards dramatically?

Is it necessary to OC let's say dual SLI 670s in order to game at maximum graphic settings on a standard 1920x1080 monitor w/ games such as SC2 & GW2?

To find the 120gb SSD hit the Expert Mode button.    Other options open.     Other than the ram speed and Killer card which was mentioned earler the rest is right on.    Good luck and keep us updated.

I thought it was something silly such as that. As far as the bigfoot network card, I'll give her a shot. The RAM I'm still undecided on. Thanks you've been a huge help!! Big ups.
