For the best in gaming you’ll get better performance changing from the SkylakeX 7820x cpu to the Coffee Lake 8700k. The X does have quad channel memory vs dual channel with Coffee Lake and has more Pcie lanes, but neither are needed for most cases. Faster cores help more than number of cores for games.
The gtx 1080Ti is faster and cheaper for gaming also than Titan Xp. For single video card, a 750watt psu is fine. The 1000watt is if you wanted to sli. You didn’t mention your monitor resolution. For 1080p, go gtx 1070. For 1440p the gtx 1080, and for 4k you need sli 1080ti. Hope this helps. |

Looks good. You definitely don’t need 32gb ram, 16gb will do, but ram is fairly inexpensive so up to you.
I don’t RAID, so others might ask why. I would think just cloning your drive on a regular basis would be the way to go, but depends on your needs. Go for it and let us know how it goes. |

Will 16 pcie lanes reduce performance?

For a single gpu, no difference with a 16 pci lane setup. When you get into sli, tests on 2x Titan Xp have shown a 3-5% difference between x8 and x16 lanes for both cards. But, to get the x16x16 you'd need to spend several hundred more for the 7900 chips that have the 44 pcie lanes. The 7800 has 28 lanes, meaning an sli setup would be x16x8 for some mobo's. The 7600x cpu has 16 lanes, so sli is x8x8.
Also, the speed of the 8700 cpu might negate the extra lane performance of the 7800 over the 8700, since the 8700 is a faster core, unless of course you overclock with water. |

My pleasure.
My take is to get the fastest 4 or 6 core cpu for gaming. Plus the Titan Xp benches I saw for x16x16 etc. might not apply to a gtx 1080 ti. Not sure. For the most part, no big difference between x8 or x16 for today's cards. In the future, who knows. |

i used to not really care all that much about sli dropping down to x8/x8, but with faster 4k monitors on the horizon you're going to want to eliminate any potential throughput bottlenecks.
i'm leery of Intel's chipset limitations when it comes to running multiple high speed devices thru their DMI. as these monitors aren't out yet nobody really knows what demands they'll place on pcie throughput. you might be better off going with Skylake X or even an AMD alternative, some config that allows you to run direct to cpu pcie lanes in x16/x16 with an sli setup of graphics that will be needed to squeeze out the kind of performance you'll want at 4k+ resolution with a fast refresh over 60Hz. |

just to add x299 is a mess and you'd better pay very close attention to every boadr's layout for lane allocation in order to match it up to your hardware choices and the performance you want.
