Snappy with better visuals.
I'll put a check in the Like box, also. I always have something to complain about so..... some of the More Info and Spec panels are faded or not imaged correctly. Hard to read. Mainly in the video cards, specifically gtx 780 and 760 for example. This is a carry-over from the old configurator and not a product of your new work. Edited by bprat22 - 28 Mar 2014 at 6:12am |

Glad to hear you all like it! It's a ton faster as well.
@bprat22, I'll have the team look into that. Thanks! |

Forgot to mention.... The team fixed the Info panels. Saw it a few days ago. Right on top of things.

So, I never saw the old one. However, I can give feedback on the current one:
1) At first I found it hard to find out where to customize it. Why? Because once you drill down into the specific type of rig you are building the words "Select and Buy" don't quite capture the user action I am looking to move forward with. "Select and Customize" would be more appropriate...even if the button gets a bit elongated. 2) The customizing took a little getting used to, but once understood, it went fast. 3) Having the customizer advance was a nice feature, but leaving the prior selection at the top might be more effective, since it was easy to look down one, make a selection and then not realize you missed the one above it. Essentially it made it hard from a UX perspective to see my progress. 4) The configurator allows a user to select items that conflict. Preventing that would be a big plus, but I recognize that if you don't have a workflow engine of sorts you need to be building in conditional logic. That does take time. 5) By making the span_class "selected options" about 80px instead of 100px tall, you could eliminate a lot of white space and give the user a bit more visibility to future options [aka "What am I also about to consider?" type of things] It let's the user think forward a couple of steps instead of having to scroll 6) I loved being able to see the price update and hover to the right. It's a great use of the dead space that widescreens give us. 7) I like fact that you've used Responsive Design effectively. I adjusted my browser size and reviewed on my iPad, the adjustments made in the elements was very well done. The red bar that pops up on iPad screens was well thought out, I was impressed by that little item...it really grabbed my attention and guided me well. It would argue it's a better feature than the red-pill design I see in Chrome/Firefox on my desktop. 8) The items which allowed me to get more info or learn more had effective pop ups and the specs included were good. However, a few of those screens were unreadable as they spanned outside the visible area and I was unable to scroll across. It's a well done design. I found it as easy to use as the ------------- sites, BUT it was cleaner and I appreciated the modern design. Overall, kudos to the team that built it. [I am a "Scrum Master" and I lead software dev teams...we've built a Healthcare Exchange, HR sites, etc] EDIT: Competitor names removed - Alex Edited by Alex - 05 Apr 2014 at 5:47pm |
