Hey guys,
So its been quite sometime since I have had a gaming PC of any type. I started to notice recently that my computer really wasn't running any AAA games well (running most on medium-low), so I thought it'd be a good time for an upgrade. I am totally fine admitting I have limited knowledge overall, but through searching and reading forums, watching videos, reading blogs....I have come up with this build. I think it should be pretty damn solid but would love feedback and suggestions. My goal is to run pretty much anything at Ultra settings in 1440p. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance. Hi DryRat.... That is a solid build.
Not sure you need the separate sound card, mobo audio is real good nowadays, but depends what sound system you have. Drop the H2O Tube Color and pick from Internal Lighting. The H2O tubing is for the custom Hydrolux water cooling and not the AIO cooler like the H100i. Looks good and good luck. |

Thanks for the feedback.
Gonna switch out to just mobo audio, since I dont really need the Sound Blaster. Thanks for letting me know about the tubing too, switched it out. One question I have, which Z170 board is the best? I know that is a bit vague...so maybe the best for 1440p gaming? |

You will want to go with the Maximus VIII Hero or Z170-Deluxe, as they have better power deliver for high speed memory stability.

when you get to the high-end boards it usually comes down to just which color scheme you want. they usually all have the best/same sound chips/drivers, multi-card sli, better power delivery, etc.
i put a Z170-Deluxe in the rig DS is building for me because it had all of the features i wanted and the color scheme i desired as well. i always use Asus mobo's for their build quality and the fact that they have the best software/UEFI bios. |

If you want/need integrated WiFi (you can also create a soft access point with it to connect other WiFi devices to it), then go with the Z170-Deluxe. If you don't need it or you want an overclocking-oriented motherboard (meaning you yourself will be doing overclocking on the processor, memory, or system clocks) then the Maximus VIII Hero may be better. You can add WiFi later as an add-in card in an open PCI-e slot or with a USB dongle, too.

why not just get a board with wi-fi capability? i don't like that dongle. you don't get wireless ac and it only operates on the 2.4 GHz frequency. if you go with a mobo like the Z170 Pro Gaming or Deluxe you get wireless ac. that's 1300 Mb/s compared to 300 Mb/s and you get both 2.4/5 GHz antennas with the mobo change (also think it's cheaper).
as for overclocking the Deluxe oc's like a champ! read some reviews. Edited by db188 - 13 Nov 2015 at 1:37am |
