Looking to spend something between 2.5k and 3k. |

Yes but do you want the best bang for your buck? The only way to do that is to know the monitor resolution.

Building a pc is kinda like racing cars. Before you know what kinda car to bring you need to know what type of race, is it Nascar, ist f1? Is it drag racing? Each requires a different type of race car.
For gaming the native resolution or your monitor is the race. A pc for 1080p is a bit different from a pc for 4k.(depending on the game) How it works is first we figure out what is the native resolution of your monitor, second we figure out what types of games. Once we know those 2 we can figure out what kinda graphic power (video card/gpu) you need to max that game in that resolution. Once we know the gpu we need that will help us figure out what power supply (psu) and what motherboard (mobo) we need. From there its easy, for gaming a good quad core cpu (processor), 8 to 16 gb of ram, a good ssd and we are done. So you see its best if you figure out what monitor first Edited by DST4ME - 25 Nov 2017 at 11:13am |

Hi DST4ME,
Thanks for the detailed response, much appreciated. I was gravitating towards a 27" display with 1440p/1080p gaming. Not targeting 4k gaming but I will take whatever I can get in my budget. Hope this makes sense. Would still like to spend around 2.5k plus even if it seems a bit overkill for my requirements above. Thanks again for your patience. |

So for 1080p we have people that stand by their 1060 gtx, we recommend 1060, or if you want to you can go 1070.
For 1440p you gonna want 1070/1070 ti, maybe 1080 if your monitor is 120hz and higher So as you see it makes a difference Why don't you narrow or find the monitor first, otherwise we may end up wuth a 1080 for 1080p which is a huge waste of money Edited by DST4ME - 25 Nov 2017 at 11:31am |

Just to give you an idea tho, lets say you wanted to go 1080p with a 1070:
normally I would not put 1000w in this system but the 1000w is on sale so there you go. Ask for the h115i to be installed on top if there is an issue with that let us know. the above is just an example for you Edited by DST4ME - 25 Nov 2017 at 11:41am |

Why do you say for the cooler to be on top. Mine was installed on the front. Just wondering before I buy my next velox

Preferable place is on top so it suks the hot rising air and shoots it out, is yours sucking air in?

I agree cooler on top makes sense and fans go on top of it providing the sucking force. Also assuming top is clear, you can see the RGB colors of the fans on top which looks cool.
One thing I am not clear on is if the sucking force of the fans is inferior to them blowing through the radiator. For example, in your car the fans are always behind the radiator using the push blowing scenario. Does anyone know? I personally feel the sucking of fans may not be as efficient as blowing but would love to see real data on this. I am sure it will work fine for this computer build as I have seen many done this way, but was wondering in general? Edited by Corvette_Dude - 25 Nov 2017 at 4:50pm |

Thanks, thinking about this monitor
https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-Response-eQualizer-Adjustable-XL2730/dp/B01H5KKVME 2k gaming. Just wanted to add, I wanted a 2 monitor set-up. The second monitor would be for just browsing. Have been browsing a bit, would vanquish7 "extreme" work for me ? Edited by kaldoot - 25 Nov 2017 at 11:05pm |

Yes vanquish will do fine, but keep in mind that monitor is freesync and not gsync(Nvidia)
@CD wuth good fans it won't make a noticeable difference if any, with inferior fans, well lets just say that if we have inferior fans then push or pull is the least of our. problems Edited by DST4ME - 25 Nov 2017 at 11:28pm |

Any other configuration options?
Would I see any benefit towards future proofing if I chose a custom config with a better power supply or/and GPU. Thanks again |

There is no real future proofing.
The config I gave you has better psu, mobo, ssd, cpu cooler and case, some of those have longer warranties also. The case is not that big of a deal. For gpu most likely after 2-3 years you will need a new gpu to stay powerful in games. What games are you mainly playing? Edited by DST4ME - 26 Nov 2017 at 11:34am |

OK,
Regarding games - looking to play tomb raider,DOW3,witcher,DOTA2,wolfenstein..etc. Would game on this monitor probably Dell - 27" LED QHD GSync Monitor The more I see it, vanquish7 ultimate looks good enough for my purpose - it can handle 1440p gaming pretty decently as well. I can put the savings in a nice monitor. A few things - 1. 600W PSU good in case I want to swap the GPU a few years down the line ? 2. Better cooling is always better, but I would presume the stock cooler on vanquish to be still ok? 3. Apart from SLI support, is there anything else I would miss with the MOBO choice ? Thanks again for the patience and help. |

1. That is the problem, we don't know exact model so we don't know what you actually got.
2. I would go h115i or noctua, you couldn't pay to go otherwise, not sure what kind of a warranty that cooler has, but h115i has 5 year warranty, keep in mind DS is giving you 1 year warranty. To be completely honest I would only do noctua but they stopped offering it, so we are stuck wuth h115i. But that might just be me, however im going by the reviews I see on line and my own experiences. 3. The better the mobo, the better parts they use in it, that is not true for all models but it does for lots. Let me look at the mobos and see exactly what is different. And their reviews. For the games you play you should be fine looks like you can do it with 1070 ti: For this last one you would need to turn settings down a little Edited by DST4ME - 26 Nov 2017 at 12:42pm |

Lol I see you know what I mean about noctua
Why don't you just upgrade the gpu, is the cpu not cutting it? Edited by DST4ME - 26 Nov 2017 at 12:44pm |

Just want to get a new rig, having a few intermittent issues here and there. One of the GPUs stopped working 6 months ago, not sure what is the reason.
Would appreciate a smaller footprint as well.. I do play RTS games (DOW3) which are CPU intensive but I dont know for sure if my CPU is the bottleneck or not. Anyway not to keep wasting your time :) - Now that you have a more comprehensive understanding of my needs - Vanquish7 extreme good enough for me? I understand trading down on PSU/MOBO/cooler compared to your suggested config but trading up on GPU. Btw, getting 2 years part warranty for free if I order by today.. Could use the saved money on the display. Edited by kaldoot - 26 Nov 2017 at 1:59pm |

Your old gpu simply died. It happens to all parts.
If you are ok with the info i provided, the fps on the games i provided benchmark for, then I don't see why vanquish would not work for you |

That works..
One last question before I hit the button - As I had asked somewhere up.. Can I use GTX 1080 to drive 2 dispays - assume first one to play games at 1080/1440p and second display to just browse etc.. |
