Hi killeralan,

I think the Velox uses a slot Optical Drive and if you eliminate the drive you will still have the slot. If you just got to get rid of your Optical Drive then send Alex an Email and ask him if you can get it deleted. [email protected]

If it was me I would just leave it installed.

Frank

Hi killeralan.. I would also start with the level 2 with the Z170 and i7-6700K chipset and cpu.   For gaming there is no benefit with the extra cores and the added Pcie lanes and quad channel ram in the X99 wouldn't be utilized.  It will save you a few bucks and give you better core performance and a newer architecture.

Also drop to 16GB ram.  Again, all you'll use for gaming.

If you stick with a single reference single fan video card you won't need the side blowhole. cooling fans.  The card empties the heat out the back.  If you went with a custom card with multi fans like the ACX, and wanted to sli, then the added cooling might be a consideration.  But, nothing wrong with the extra cooling either, so up to you.

I would recommend the EVGA ACX 3.0 card with its better circuitry and cooling, where the fans stay off until a heat threshold, about 64C, is reached.

Hope this helps and good luck. Big%20Smile

If you don't see it this build is was a waste of your money, this build will match or beat your build in games:

Click Image To Go To Configuration Page

Bit of info:

1. Do not install Mcafee , instead get a lighter better anti virus like ESET ( number 3 on the list ) Or any other good light Anti Virus will do.

2. With extra fans request that DS changes all case fans and connects all your fans to the mobo so you can control them via free software. This way we can control the fans without needing anything else (aka fan controller and etc).
Also be sure to pick the color of the ring you wan the fans to have (red/blu/white).

3. The warranty here is 3 year labor and 1 year parts so if you want higher part warranty be sure to raise the warranty level to the desired level.

So you mean the 6800K is not the latest architecture?

The 6800k is a newer release but based on the older Broadwell architecture. The Skylake 6700k tests a good 10% or better single core performance over the 6800k in gaming.   It also overclocked better. For gaming, 6700k...for apps that use more than 4 core, then Broadwell.

The promise of more cores being utilized in games has never materialized, over the years, but who knows what the future holds.
