Quick question:
What is required, and can anyone see any roadblocks, for me to install a second SSD in my 2013 Vanquish2 level 4? Fairly simple? Mechanically impossible? Somewhere in between? As always, thanks for the consideration. |

As long as you have an open SATA port on your mobo, then good to go. Just plug in the power plug from the psu, probably tie wrapped in the harness nearby and run a SATA cable from SSD to mobo. Should be seen on power up and if not go into Disc Management , right click it and enable or format.
Have fun. |

Like bp said its very easy, 2 minutes.
Install ssd into rack Plug sata cable to sata port Plug power cable to the drive Plug pc back to the wall and turn on Boot to windows then go to device manager and locate the drive format and enable it You should be good to go If you have any questions let us know Edited by DST4ME - 19 Oct 2017 at 2:54am |

According to the hardware/motherboard information, I have (or should have) one available 3gb SATA available.
The mb is an ASUS H81M-E with 2 6gbps and 2 3gbps SATA ports. The system's SSD and hard drive occupy its two 6Gbps ports, and the optical drive uses one of its 3Gbps ports, which should leave one open. So, there is the nub of my non-technical question. Will the difference between the 6Gbps and 3Gbps matter when I start looking at SSDs? No sense is getting a sportscar when I'll be running it on a dirt-track. |

Never bother with tom's there are better and much more credible articles on anandtech.
You always want the fastest solution with ssd. Your hhd and optical should be on 3gb (dark brown) and your 2 ssds on 6gb (yellow) The hhd has no use for 6gb, it is wasting it, it will never max it. Edited by DST4ME - 19 Oct 2017 at 4:50am |

Tom's is fine for the non-technical user. The writing is geared more for the layman. I was on Anandtech and got a headache in one paragraph.. lol.
This is a stupid question, but I'm going to ask; If I reposition the HDD to the brown 3gps SATA port, will it still be recognized like everything is the same? Plug and play, etc or is there another step? |

Moving to a different SATA port is just plug and play. No problem.

Tom's has a credibility issue, i used to be there before i came here, git tired of bs info that was passed on ti readers without any proper corrections.
You might need to change drive letter back to what it is now through drive management, simple and easy to do. |

On the Amazon cart, with a SATA cable.
Went 500Gb because of games like Shadow of War now come in at 70Gb each. (My first computer's HD was 256Mb and I felt like I'd NEVER fill that bad boy up.) I'll follow up when I get it installed. I don't foresee any problems or issues. Thanks DST4ME and bprat... helpful and informative as always for us neophytes. Edited by Snaike - 20 Oct 2017 at 3:44am |
