Topic: New VANQUISH 4 Changes (Skylake) Posted: 19 Aug 2015 at 10:25am |

Today we have made the following changes to the VANQUISH line:
1. Replaced Windows 8.1 with Windows 10 on all Level 1 - Level 4 configurations. 2. Replaced the VANQUISH 3 Level 4 with the new VANQUISH 4 Level 4 (Skylake Edition). The new VANQUISH 4 Level 4 has the following changes while still being at the same $1,599 price point: - i7 6700K CPU - 16GB DDR4 2666MHz Memory - Z170 Chipset Motherboard - GTX 970 Graphics Card - LED Internal Lighting - CPU Overclock of 4.4GHz Please Note, the previous Level 4 VANQUISH 3 was still a great system. It had a more powerful GTX 980 graphics card. However, due to customer feedback, we noticed customers would prefer to have an i7 CPU, more memory, and LED lighting and be happy with a GTX 970 at a $1,599 price. At $1,599 I strongly feel we have created a very well balanced and powerful gaming PC that can play any game out there at high visual settings at resolutions of 1920x1080P. |

Hmmmm, strange move. What gamer would rather have a 970 over a 980 for the same price?

One of they main reasons was that a majority of all games run 60+ FPS with a GTX 970 anyways, and this way, with an i7 and 16GB of memory, it creates a well rounded overall performance PC.

Could you please include the Skylake variant CPUs in the Vanquish 3 level 3 pleasseee? I can't quite afford the Vanquish 3 level 4 and I deeply desire the new i7 6700k. Besides, it's a good marketing choice because as a user, you could just downgrade the Apollo level 1 build and get the same results. :c

Currently only the Level 4 is going to be Skylake for the next few weeks at the very least. Sorry about that.
I do wish to say, the performance of Skylake and Devil's Canyon CPUs is piratically the same. |

I'm sure the level 3 will have the i5-6600K processor in it, not the i7-6700K. That will still have DDR4 memory and updated I/O from the new motherboard.

As long as you're making changes... if you could make the SSD on the level 3 a 250gb and keep it at the same price point... I would love you loooooong time

Due to market wide shortages on the supply for the i7-6700K, we had to revert back to the original VANQUISH 3 - Level 4 configuration with the 4790K CPU. We're estimating this to remain this way for at least 2-3 weeks.
On a good note, you can now get a VANQUISH Level 4 with a GTX 980 again. |

Would the other specs mentioned in the OP still be correct (memory etc) or did DS totally go back to the config on the web page? |

Until Alex comes back... They would have to revert to the original or similar mobo and memory. The 4790k wouldn't be compatible with either the Z170 mobo or DDR4 ram. The amount of ram, 16gb back to 8gb I assume is to keep the price point similar with the more costly gtx 980.
Edit...just noticed that Alex mentions the i7-4790k as the cpu but the config shows the i5-4690k. Maybe a typo by Alex above. Edited by bprat22 - 26 Aug 2015 at 11:25am |

Thanks for the reply. Its enough until Alex "officializes" it since I hadn't considered the compatibility factor.

Sorry, that was my mistake, it's the old config, which is with the i5-4690K.

Wonder if there is any way to be notified when the new Skylake variant will be in stock, or if there has been any word on availability yet. Really looking forward to it.

Been waiting since August 26th. Super excited for my Vanquish 4 Level 4. Also, since people seem a bit conflicted about this change, why not offer them options to pick between the old and new stuff during the configuration process? (video card, etc)

Just go with it as it is. V4 Lvl4 and done. Buy it, play and be happy that you just got a great system for short money. If you do want to upgrade the gpu at some point simply put a 980ti in it. gtx 980 isn't really much of an upgrade over a 970. btw, I did buy a V4 Lvl4 and I may even set it up soon:)

The reason we can buy the Vanquish at an excellent price/performance level is there are no options. Options require man power to make changes and that cost money. It wouldn't make sense for DS to offer options for the Vanquish. Nor could they maintain the low cost.

For the budget minded gamer it seems to me that the VANQUISH 4, level 3 is the best performance/cost buy. Considering that both the level 3 and level 4 CPUs are OCed to 4.4. The only real advantage of the 6700K is multitasking. If you don't do a bunch of other stuff while gaming, then the 6600K will be a good choice. Of course, in my opinion.

Well said, and yes. The real difference is that between the VANQUISH LEVEL 3 & LEVEL 4 is that the LEVEL 4 has more future proofing, it's with n i7 CPU, 16GB of memory, etc...

Yeah, it's almost to the point where you need to bump the lvl 4 up to a 980 or 980 Ti (and tack on a corresponding amount to the cost, of course) to better differentiate between it and the lvl 3.

Making the LEVEL 4 have a GTX 980 will increase the price gap between the LEVEL 3 by a large margin. In addition, we do not want the VANQUISH series to be "enthusiast" performance grade.

in that case Alex you might consider dropping the level down to an I3 dual core or even an AMD cpu offering for an even better "budget-oriented" build.

True, an i3 could do the job, but we went with an i5 to keep a balance in overall CPU performance, especially with Direct X 12 and other future games utilizing the processor for additional effects, etc...

sorry for the typo, that advice was for the "level 1". i've been reviewing some benchmark reviews lately and a high clocked, hyper-threaded I3 (i3-4170) for about $120, paired with a decent vid card (like a 960) can actually produce good performance with some setting tweaks dependent on the game at 1080p. this would give people on an even tighter budget the ability to purchase from DS.
also, that I3 leaves them an open upgrade path to a more powerful LGA 1150-based cpu down the road w/o having to spend a ton on a complete system overhaul. Edited by db188 - 08 Oct 2015 at 2:12pm |
