Hello Digital Storm Community,
I have been going back and forth for months now on rather or not to build a new pc. I really like the Aventum 3. My question is with the new Nvidia 1080s coming out, how long will it be until your builds will have those available? |

A rep from DS would need to answer this, but from experience, they won't give a particular date. Usually, the day they become available for retail DS will have them.
Alex might be able to add to this, or not. |

We'll have them very soon, let's just say the last week of the month.

The expensive Founder's model or retail from third-party at the lower price? |

All models this month will be the FE from both Nvidia and third party resellers. FE is just a rebrand of reference. Don't let the name confuse you.
Now, there is some mixed journalism on if third party will then drop their FE/reference to the $599 price point with their own after market versions or not. Really depends on if nvidia will let them. But this will be the first time that nvidia purposely produces their own line to sell directly to the public for the life span of the card. I only say that because nvidia might force all reference/FE cards to be at the $699 price. Either way, we will see non-reference/FE cards starting next month (June). |

Not to hijack this thread, so having x3 980 TIs when would be the best time to upgrade? I'm still waiting for a kick butt 4K monitor to drop (I'd like 34"; 4K; G-sync). I'm assuming probably Volta? PS: It's nice to see you around the boards again Meller!! You've been missed.

The GTX 1080 pre-orders sold-out like hot cakes. I imagine DS will have a hard time initially keeping a decent supply in stock, so be prepared to make your order as soon as it is available in the configurator.

Just depends. Your 980 Ti's in tri sli should be doing just find in 4k.
Either upgrade to the 1080 Ti's when they drop and then just plan on keeping that for two generations. Or just hold out. Maybe sell your 980 Ti's to people later this year and pick up a couple of 1070's to hold you by til Volta. Either way, as it looks, Volta will be an upgrade worth GPU. |

It's just been these couple of days in between flights and meetings. I'm a fly risk, Dax... you know this. Bringing it up already. Also, Snaike kind of summoned me. I don't fully understand the beatlejuice rules, but I'm not sure if I can just leave all "willy-nilly" like. |

i've got two oc'd Strix 980ti's under water and in sli mode i'm only pulling 40 FPS average in The Division, with minimums in the 29-30 FPS range with the Ultra setting and V-Sync disabled. that sucks, tbh. i suspect typical poor Ubisoft optimization. GPU utilization never went above 75% on either card, with the second card typically 10-20% lower. CPU utilization was in the high 30's. i watched a guy on youtube test out 3xTitan X with this game and only get about 10FPS on average more than i did with the same SLI scaling i saw. gonna have to test this monitor out with more games. just thought i'd let you know about this monitor. imo, 4K done right should be on a 30"+ monitor. Hey db188 - that monitor is sweet and I've actually had my eye on it. I'm hoping that a similar 34" one comes out (though that could be a pipe dream). I was also looking at the ASUS PQ321Q 31.5-Inch 4K UHD 16:9 LED LCD Monitor (Black).
That's definitely sucky about The Division. Like you said, though, Ubisoft has always been known for horrible optimization. I would be curious to know about how some of the other games work in your set up. I'm thinking maybe I'll upgrade to the 1080 TIs (x2) from my 980TIs (x3) at the time and then ride it out for a while until my next computer perhaps (thought the 5960X should give me at least 5 years I would think). As soon as stock gets good I'm buying the new PG34whateverQ from ASUS. That 34" wide curved screen 1440p looks too sexy. I'm hoping three 1080Ti's will let me run a 3440x1440p and one to two more 1440p monitors with easy. I currently PG278Q and the PB278Q, plus the PB287Q (I think the 4k 28"). I'll retire the 4k and rock my two 1440ps assuming it's not too hard on a tri 1080 Ti set up. We shall see.
Those 30+ curved screens are just too sexy. The temptation is so real. |
