Been doing research reading lots of reviews on the g-sync. Seems like it's well liked but in some cases based on games played it's not needed. Also seems to be capped at 100hz then you have to oc to go higher. Just wanted to check in with the DS family to get a feel on what experience some have had with it. Thanks all

this article is a bit old but still explains stuff well have a look at it because it seems like you have gotten some bad info.
G-sync matches your monitor's refresh rate no matter the refresh rate. you want to use dp connection on the card to the monitor. You want your monitor to be G-sync compatible. Make sure you are not mistaking v-sync with g-sync. AT 144Hz if you notice tearing on your game enable g-sync, otherwise you are good. I don't own a 144Hz monitor myself yet to give you more details, but I have played on a few and they do move faster and g-sync does seem to smooth out the game pretty good most times. I'm sure the other guys that actually own a 120/144Hz monitor can give you more details on it Edited by DST4ME - 20 Aug 2016 at 2:25am |

Thanks yea it's hard to weed through what other people say. Most tech sights seem to like it but said the same as you don't really need it until you hit some issues then turn it on. I did see the dp connection they don't really highlight that for such an important piece of info. The refresh rate is where it seems to get muddy quite a few people talked about the 100hz that gsync can't get beyond until you oc to 120. Thanks for the article I'll check it out. Hope some people who run it speak up.

I'm not sure where you are getting this 100Hz and oc business cause I have not heard anything about that but then again as I mentioned I don't have one but everything I have read about it and understand about it does not equate to the 100hz and oc comment.
Are you sure they are not mistaking the monitor's refresh rate? g-sync is not something you oc. Some monitor's refresh rate you can oc. |

No I must have read over 100 reviews and it was mentioned more then a couple of times. I thought it was strange that the way they framed it was if your monitor was 144 refresh rate you were good with gsync between 60-100 to get by that with gsync you had to do some oc. Very confusing since I never read that in any tech websites. Really why I posted this thread so I could hear from someone on here who owns a 144 and uses gsync. I'm sure your right with the info getting mixed up gsync would be pretty useless if you had to do extra work to get it to sync up beyond 100hz especially after dropping $600 for the monitor.

Are you talking about the reddit posts about the x34?
Can you post a link to where you are reading this? |

I wish I could but I don't remember where I read it. I'm pretty sure the comments were all made in the same thread. Basically they were all talking about likes and dislikes of using gsync. Up until I got on that forum gsync seemed pretty straight forward. It really threw me off thinking I had to somehow trick my monitor to except the full use of gsync.

I think you got a hold of a bad thread or misinfo. Thats just not how gsync works, forget that thread and stick with the info in that article from anadtech that I linked you to, once you read that you will see the info you read in the other thread makes no sense.

I have been using it with my gtx 1080 and x34 predator and it works very well. Granted I have only played older games like Crisis 2 and Battlefield 3 I can say my refresh rates are very high and I can never notice any dip at all...

Yea that's pretty much what I was thinking some info was lost in translation. Good article on the gsync lays it out pretty simple. |

it depends on the individual monitor, but both G-Sync and AMD's adaptive sync have frequency ranges where neither tech supports it. for instance, AMD claims FreeSync can support a frequency range from 9-240Hz, but that's a best case scenario and not indicative of every monitor's performance. in any case, dynamic sync is only really noticeably helpful in the sub-60FPS range, diminishing returns the higher the refresh rate and FPS gets. in which case, it's best to switch to ULMB (if your monitor supports it) to improve your visual experience.

As db said make sure you get a monitor that supports ULMB. Most of the new monitors already do but check to be sure.

That's a nice monitor I've been checking that one out. Does the 4m make a difference over 1m or is there really no difference between the two?

yup, ideally you want a monitor with the fastest screen refresh rate (expressed in "Hz") and pixel response (expressed in "ms"). there's also "total lag" having to do with a combo of signal processing and pixel response. as long as it's category 1 (under 16ms), which translates to 1 frame of lag, you're good to go. the best stuff on the market is under 10ms and even 5ms total lag. that Acer should be between 5ms and 10ms total lag.

The monitors I'm looking at are all 1-4m for the prices was just curious if running 4m was very noticeably slower response rate over the 1m. I don't currently have a newer monitor so I have no idea.

Hose928 have a look here to see what db means about response time and then checkout the monitor you like on the same site also as db mentioned.

Thanks guys that's a good link gives way more info. That's why I was curious it just seemed some monitors with a higher response rate seemed to do much better then some with lower response rate. At least now I have the info in one spot to make a better comparison.

@Hoze928, @hoserator Our pleasure
You will catch me and db and a few others mention tftcentral, its a good place for no bs and just facts mainly, plus you get a real review of the monitor you want to buy, I always refer to tft for info on a monitor before I buy it. |
