Topic: Oculus Rift - Multiple USB Controllers Posted: 27 Dec 2017 at 6:20am |
Folks,
I'm thinking about adding a USB PCIe card with separate controllers for each port to my next DS machine. Is that a good idea? I want a moderately powerful system for general gaming and Oculus Rift. My eight year old DS i7-920 gives spotty performance, and in particular I have trouble with USB. With three Rift sensors and the headset, I can't plug them all into one USB controller and get them to work. So what I want is a rig with at least two separate controllers for USB 3.0 ports, and I need a total of 6 ports; 4 for the Rift, one for my kb/mouse, and one for miscellaneous peripherals. I also want a quiet rig, so here's what I came up with so far. Thanks for any advice on USB for a Rift machine. Take that needing different controllers with a grain of salt, if you look around you will see many using one at 3.0 and doing fine.
Having said that, look at your mobo's usb ports, assume, one controller on 3.1, one on 3.0 and one on 2.0. For your needs, worst-case scenario you add cards or hub. But just to be clear depending on the mobo, you probably have one for all. Make peace with either noise or performance, you can't have both with that setup. Drop noise package it is pointless. Drop fan controller you got nothing to control, for accurate temps we use freeware. Go 8700k, Drop oc you don't need it, go with turbo boost, if more is needed we can help you oc, it is very easy and you will endup with better settings. Drop oc from gpu also Drop os boost Go win pro Get install cd and instead clone the drive once you are done setting it up. I have seen people set up on one controller, set up using pci controllers and even hubs. Edited by DST4ME - 27 Dec 2017 at 3:29pm |
