My DS rig is just over 6years old. I only play CIV6 (maybe BF1 if I fix this). Had some blue screen issues. Reinstalled W10. Now CIV stops and I get a memory error. Sticks are secure. I think I need new/more ram.
Can I just replace my 6g of ram with 8g of new, faster ram? If so, suggestions? Thanks! I7 950 EVGA X58 SLI 3 Edition 6g DDR3 @ 1600mhz 2gx3 (DSM certified) 250g Samsung EVO 840 (orig was 80g) Nvidia 760 (orig was 480) Also, task mgr says I have 6g of DDR2 @ 1300mhz? |

Your motherboard is triple channel, meaning you should install ram in 3. You can replace your 3x 2gb with 3x 4gb ram sticks. Only 2 ram sticks will work but better to keep it at triple channel.
Use Crucial.com and their memory configuration to get an idea of what fits. You don't need to buy from them but just get the specs. CPUZ, free download, memory tab, will also show you the DDR2 and timings, like 9-9-9-24 as an example. As far as the Civ 6 memory issues, try installing the latest drivers from GeForce for your gtx 760. Also use Verify Game files in Steam.....right click the game, properties, local files, verify. Hope this helps. |

Thanks for the info, bprat22.
Driver updated and Civ verified. Checked Crucial. Their suggestion is cheaper on Newegg. Gonna spend $75 for 3x 4gb sticks. Never replaced ram before. Just put new sticks in same slots and boot up? Do I have to match the timing, which CPUZ said was the same as you suggested? Im still not sure why windows reads my current ram as DDR2 (it's DDR3) and at a slower speed. Thanks, again! |

Yep, just replace it and boot up. Your new ram timing doesn't have to match what you have now because you're swapping them all, so no mixed sticks.
Here's a discussion we had on another post..... http://www.digitalstorm.com/forums/memory-recommendation-for-evga-x58-motherboard-tidf23654/ Edited by bprat22 - 17 Jan 2017 at 2:32am |
