The Slade I've ordered appears to have 2 USB 3.0 ports on the front.  I cannot see any on the back of the Corsair Obsidian 550D case.  What do people with lots of USB devices do in these circumstances, i.e. if there is not a cluster of USB ports on the back of the case?  Surely you are not supposed to run a powered USB hub off one of the 2 front ports?  Am I missing something obvious?

I reviewed your config and see you selected the ASUS Gryphon Z87. That board features 8 additional USB ports on the back. There are 4 USB 2.0 and 4 USB 3.0.

To answer your question, yes there is a cluster of USB ports on the rear of the case.

Thank you so much!  I should have posted my build link; thank you very much for hunting it down.

That's a huge relief.  Excuse my ignorance, it's a "doh!" moment. I will still use a powered USB hub for things that I frequently connect and disconnnect, but being able to plug permanent USB peripherals into the back of the case is obviously the tidiest and most efficient way to do it.  I should have realised that it was a function of the motherboard.  Thanks again.

I had the same "doh!" moment myself. I'd seen pictures of motherboards with rows of ports, and I'd (obviously) seen rows of ports on the back of computers, but I'd never realized that the latter were in fact the former until I actually went through the process of ordering a custom machine.

Thank you, that's reassuring, because I feel like such an idiot.
