Topic: Overlock question. Posted: 10 Oct 2013 at 4:46am |
I have a DS desktop and when I bought it back in 2010 my CPU was overclocked to between 3.3 and 3.9 GHz. Since then I have reinstalled windows with the recovery disk from DS. I'm guessing that my CPU doesn't stay overclocked if I do that? I ran CPU-Z to see if it was still OC and I'll list the stats below. My CPU is a i7 930 2.8 quadcore and I have a Noctua Dual 120mm fan on my CPU.
Core Speed: 2918 MHz Multiplier: x 22.0 (12 - 23) Bus Speed: 132 MHz QPI Link: 2387 MHz Should I see about overclocking it once again? Not sure how difficult it is to do. |

Not sure how they the OC was done then, but currently it is done in the BIOS so reinstalling the OS wouldn't change that. Unless your machine is under load, it will only show the stock clock speed under CPU-Z. There are others on here that are more well versed on this subject and I'm sure you'll hear from them shortly...

Alright, so there is a chance it's still OC?

It probably is, but sometimes a OS re-install does effect it, but you can never tell. Not usually though.
Go back to cpu-z. and run it under stress and see what the core voltage and core speed is under load. An easy way is to run Windows Experience Index to stress the chip and read cpu-z while its running. Typically core voltage, vcore , will be 1.4 instead of 1.0 and your core speed will go to the 3300 + you mentioned. Your case might get different values. If the oc isn't there, it might be saved in Bios, under Tools. maybe. Not sure of your mobo. Consult your mobo manual for its procedure if in doubt. |

lol, just run cpu-z while running the large FFT test in Prime95 to check it out. Or reboot and go into your bios and see what it say.
I'd really doubt that DS would do an OC via windows and not in the bios. At least I'd hope not. |

I went into the BIOS and looked in the frequency/voltage and everything is either disabled, auto, or not setup I believe. Not entirely sure what I'm looking for, I'll list what was in there below.
Dummy O.C [Disabled] Extreme Cooling [Disabled] Memory Feature [Press Enter] Voltage Control [Press Enter] CPU Feature [Press Enter] CPU Clock Ratio [21 X] CPU Host Freq [Auto] MCH Strap [Auto] CPU Uncore Freq [Auto] CPU Clock Skew [0 ps] Spread Spectrum [Disabled] PCIE Freq [100] OC Recovery [Enabled] Turbo Performance [Doisabled] |

Have you determined whether or not the oc is still there? If so then all is good.
If not then you are looking for where DS would've saved an oc Profile. Usually under the Tools folder but not sure in your case. If you find an oc saved profile just select it and load an save the Bios settings. No need to do the oc yourself. I'm not sure what DS did so if you can't find it just email or call DS. They keep the rcords for several years I believe. |

It appears Posivated's system was ordered back in 2011, we might not have been saving OC profiels then.
@Posivated, try to review if your BIOS has OC profiles, if it does, try to load them. Or, call us and we can help you with this. |
