    Posted: 16 Oct 2017 at 4:12pm
So I've had my pc for maybe a year or two, and no problems. Now all the sudden on random games my pc will crash. Here's a couple examples ( 1. I can run Fortnite no problem, but if I change the shadows to off and Apply my whole PC crashes, and I have to reinstall the game to reset the setting back. 2. I played The Escapists 2 for a week no problem, but now every time I try to start a game at the main menu my pc crashes. 3. I recently bought Dead Island Definitive Edition on sale, once again I tried to start a new game and I crash.) This happens on many games so I know it's not the games fault it's something to do with my hardware. I have clean installed windows again to no avail. Here are some examples of games I run no issue; Pubg, Fortnite (shadows on), GTA V, The Forest, The Witcher 3, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Fallout 4, DayZ, and much much more. It seems random games cause an issue. I can't play some games with my friends because of it. Any ideas on what could possible be the problem would be appreciated. Here are my specs as well;

Processor: Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2 GHz
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME Z270-P
System Memory: 16GB DDR4 2666MHz Digital Storm Performance Series
Power Supply: 750W EVGA SuperNOVA (750 B1)
Storage Set 1: 1x SSD (480GB Digital Storm Performance Series)
Storage Set 2: 1x Storage (2TB Seagate / Toshiba)
Graphics Card(s): 1x GeForce GTX 1080 8GB (NVIDIA Founders Edition) (VR Ready)
Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio
Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Digital Storm Vortex 240mm Liquid CPU Cooler (Fully Sealed + No Maintenance)

First thought is to reinstall video card drivers.   Do a clean install.   Try a different driver.

If it’s only certain games then it’s probably not a Hardware issue.    Try going into Nvidia Control Panel, 3D settings, then try different settings in power settings like max performance for example under that game. Shut down and restart.

Just thinking...if these are older games then try running them in Compatibility mode.   Right click the game and select. Windows 7 or 8 if you’re in Win 10.

I've already changed that to max performance and no success.

Here's a couple crash reports I've found, but nothing I can figure out how to fix.

1.) The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device SWD\WPDBUSENUM\_??_USBSTOR#Disk&Ven_Generic&Prod_SD_NFC_Reader&Rev_0711#000000000147&0#{53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}.

2.) The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{8D8F4F83-3594-4F07-8369-FC3C3CAE4919}
and APPID
{F72671A9-012C-4725-9D2F-2A4D32D65169}
to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

Anecdotal issue... Ever since the Windows Upgrade, my system as well, has CTD (1), disabled the mouse (2), blinked out and come back in 3 seconds (2)... only while playing SoW.. but then again, that's all I've been playing since I got the update.

Your issue might be connected to the latest win upgrade as I consider that my issues are as well.

Yea I suspected that might be it, since I've had issues with Windows Updates before. There was just another update last night so I'm gonna go check if I'm still crashing.

Another thought, if you haven't already, is to unplug anything external, except the keyboard and mouse.  If you're using a programmable keyboard/mouse, try a generic one.  USB hubs use to be a big source of issues.

Have you checked gpu and cpu temps under load ?

Try running Mem86 to check for ram errors.  Or you can use Windows built in memory checker for a faster check.  Not as good but gives a quick peek.

Yea I've looked into the possible usb issues, and no difference still. As for the cpu temps, their never an issue. I will look into Mem86 and check that when I get home.

Have you tried a Fresh install.

[That will also mean downloading game again/ not just loading it from secondary hard drive. [Will allow DX install]

Sucks buts sure save a lot of trouble shooting..

Why I like the options 50G partition reset.
6 minutes and back to day one unless its a hardware issue.

Good Luck

Good Thoughts Your Way !!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately the errors you posted don't help us to see if they are associated with your problem.

Having said that, is anything in device manager showing errors?

Did you check your mini dump folder for latest dump files?

There might be a compatibility issue here, you have to reinstall that game, or might as well try what the other member of this community have suggested.
