Hello Fellow Enthusiasts,
I recently upgraded from an AMD Radeon HD 5770 to a GTX 1070 FTW. The 5770 had one 6 prong power connection and the 1070 needed two 8 prong connections. I found the other PCI-E 6 prong connections and other unused power supply connections neatly bundled with a wire tie below the 3.5 HDD/SSD slots. I clipped the wire tie and fed through the other three PCI-E 6 slot connections behind the 3.5 slots and using the EVGA GTX supplied adapters made two 8 prong connectors from four 6 prong connectors. My question is this: Since I used all of the PCI-E connectors to power the 1070; how is it possible for the X 58 LE motherboard to be SLI ready? Where do you get the power to drive a second 1070 card? Edited by jaypeetee44 - 26 Jun 2017 at 5:54am |

That psu should have 4x 6+2 pin Pcie connectors. The 6+2 pin means there is another 2 pin connector folded back and tied to the 6 pin connector. Just un -snip the tie-wrap and hook the 2 pin to the 6 in. That way you're only using 2 of your 4 Pcie connectors for single card. Adapter not needed.
If by chance there are only 6 pin connectors from the psu, you only use the 6 to 8 pin adapter on a single 6 pin from the psu. not ganging two 6 pin pcie connectors together, if I understand this right. |

bprat22,
Thanks for the info...I did wonder what the two folded back wires on the 6 prongs accomplished. Now I know. |
