Topic: Questions on a Velox build Posted: 06 Mar 2016 at 11:34am |
Budget is around $6k - using for 4k gaming and video editing
I have some questions on the build below: 1. Is the MB sufficient for high CPU OC 2. Is the PSU overkill, could I get away with lower wattage? 3. Do I need a RAID card - I want to set up the two HDD in RAID 0 4. Is the Hydrolux CPU cooling materially better/quieter than the Corsair H110? 5. Is the Noise Supression kit worth it? 6. Do I need Airflow Control? The mobo is capable of higher oc, DS stage 2, but the CPU will also determine how high. Luck of the silicon lottery.
The 1000 watt psu for sli 980 ti is what I'd recommend. Raid I couldn't say The Hydrolux Lite is a better unit materially, but doesn't necessarily mean better cooling. The biggest advantage to the LITE is the loop can be broken for add ons. The noise suppression, stage 2, isn't needed. No place to mount sound deadening material. Stage 1 is if you want DS to adjust fans instead of using the mobo software, etc. Airflow control Is the same answer as above. To save a few bucks, replace the CPU to the 5820k. The 5930 has more Pcie lanes to CPU, but for sli, the 5820 is all you need. Plenty of bandwidth. Hope this helps. Edited by bprat22 - 06 Mar 2016 at 1:15pm |

Thanks, v helpful - couple of follow up questions: 1. So if I don't need to break the loop then the Corsair cooling is sufficient for the CPU OC? 2. So would Noise level 1 and the airflow hardware reduce noise/improve airflow in a material way - would you go for it? |

Forgot to mention, since the LITE is new to DS, but I believe they'll use a 360 rad when needed, which could help with higher overclock. Might come in handy if you want 4.6 plus.
I personally wouldn't do the noise or airflow package, but that's me. |

Here's a quote from Alex....
We stock HydroLux LITE in 220mm and 320mm radiators, and we also use other radiators in conjunction depending on the user selection (1 CPU or 1 CPU + 1 GPU or 1 CPU + 2 GPU) and the chassis. |

that mobo is part of Gigabyte's "durable line" and should be a good overclocker. i've read some good reviews of its oc ability. how "high" will depend more on the silicon of the chip and cooling you select.
