Removing fan from water cooling system.

Hello everyone, after 1,5 years of service one of my fans on top radiator broke (262RPM instead of desired 1600-1800). The system is dual loop and the case is 800d, I also added photos to show you how it looks. I need help because I don't know if I will neeed to drain the system and what screws  to unscrew. Oh and yes I did turn off that fan because it was making not normal noise.

P.S. Also figured I need to clean the dust lol
Yes I couldnt figure out how to show images on the forum. (actually I was too lazy)

Hmm you might have to it will be hard to remove the radiator to install the new fan without completly removing the rad from the case but this is just my opinion

Damn you got some serious dusting to do, the best thing is to clean your pc atleast once a month dust can really damage electronics and negativly affect performance enough dust build up on fans can also cause them to stop working from what I have heard, never had the issue keep mine clean as a hospital operating room

I do wipe electronics, tubing less often :D
BTW guys do you think using automatic screwdriver is viable? Because screws on the left side are impossible to unscrew.

I'm gonna take a guess here and say the 12 screws on top, 4 for each fan, go through the case, through the fan and into the rad.  If you remove all screws the rad might drop enough to slide out the old fan.
 
I can't believe it would be more complicated than that, but I can't say for sure.
 
Good Luck and maybe someone with first hand will weigh in, or just pull the screws and see.  Support the rad from below. 
 
 Small screws I do by hand.  Power drivers can strip the heads.

It might be the picture doesn't do it justice, but they don't look bad to me.  I would get a phillips head that fits it right, nice and snug and bottomed out, and while trying to turn it, tap the end of the handle with your palm.  Or, use both hands and have a helper tap the handle with a small hammer while you press down and turning.   Not a whack, but just tapping to vibrate it loose.
I'm sure it's easier said than done.    Don't know why it would've been mounted so tight?

Yep, they must have a weight lifter doing assembly.Big%20Smile  Jack Armstrong is the name we used when we had the problem.
 
If all else fails, then a trip to Sears, etc for a Easy Out Screw extractor might be the solution.  Problem is you have to drill a small hole and ya don't want metal slivers getting into the case.  Put the case on its side, damaged screws on low side and go slow.   That is last resort.

One trick that has helped me on occasion, if all else fails, is to take a small flat head screwdriver, put the end at a 45 dgree angle or little lower into one of the slots towrd the outside edge and hit with a hammer to break it free.

I think ole' Jack might have assembled my rig too, when I first got it I had to use the force of the gods to take the side fan off the HAF-X, Big%20Smile

Hi Nebidimka,
 
My older DS rig is the 800D case and I had to replace 2 of the top fans.  Those fans in my case were attached to the radiator.  When I removed the top 12 screws the radiator with the fans attached dropped down. 
 
I was able to slide the radiator out of the case enough to remove the fans without having to remove it from the cooling loop.
 
You will need a narrow shaft phillips head screw driver that will pass through the top holes of the fan to reach the screws that hold the fan to the radiator. 
 
I hope this helps.

Nebidimka, If all else fails you may want to try a reversing drill bit. I use this at work sometimes on small screws and bolts. When you drill in reverse it grabs the head and backs it out. You may have to look on the net, I don't ever remember seeing them in any stores. At work we get them from grainger supplys. Hope this helps.
