Topic: Resale Value for used BOLT 3 Posted: 15 Nov 2016 at 10:45am |
Hi guys,
I've been very happy with my Bolt 3. It was assembled and bought back in May 2015. I paid just over $4500 for this build. Unfortunately I haven't been able to use it as planned. Work has been taking a lot of my time. I understand there is no Classifieds section here, but I wanted to know what this rig is worth if sold today. Any comments/replies appreciated. The Overall condition of my Bolt 3 is 9/10, very good condition. By today's standards it's probably an under $4000 build if new, backing out the overpriced Titan X and substituting a stronger gtx 1080 for less money for the card. Its also not under DS warranty which does attract most buyers. Granted, you still have the manufacturers warranties.
The components are top notch and still great performers, even up against the newer chipset. That's a plus. My totally uneducated guess, and based on no experience buying used is, worth about $2500, backing out it being used and not knowing its record of problems, software loaded, etc. For that money someone is getting a $3500 rig but lots of unknowns come with it. I don't mean to be flip, but it is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. There isn't a big market for used computers. I personally wouldn't buy one unless it was a family member or friend and I had first hand experience with it. |

Hi and thanks for your input. DS Warranty? This is something separate from "Warranty: Life-time Expert Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty," Not sure what the benefits of this is, I'm sure it's in my booklet. Correct, there is always a risk when buying something used (Like a car), so I understand why you would buy from someone you trust. To hold someone accountable I guess something like Ebay with reputation would help. I could also do a warm hand off with DS Support Team. Your guess sounds about right at $2500, Depreciation in parts + quality of build/Warranty. My Bolt 3 has never been overclocked outside of what DS had shipped it off with. I haven't had to call in for any technical support, so that's a good sign. |

The 3 year warranty is 1 year parts, 3 year labor. The lifetime is phone support. Not sure there's a dollar figure for it but more piece of mind.
The $2500, IMHO, would be a good deal for anyone willing to do it. |

Based on what you've shared, I agree with bprat's number.
I'd personally start at $3000 and barter down to the $2250 range if needed. Based on my experience if you put the initial price at 3k, the first offer will probably be 2k and you can go from there. I don't think I've ever sold a PC without bartering, but YMMV. Edited by Tidgxor - 15 Nov 2016 at 12:28pm |

You might also have the problem that the small Bolt 3 case is not for everyone. I suggest you find a forum like Tom's Hardware Classifieds and post it for sale there.

For what it's worth, I retained about 2/3's value selling my DS rig. It was a Vanquish 3, and I sold it after owning it a little less than a year.
When I bought mine, I paid only about $150 over cost of the parts themselves. I'd imagine the overhead on a Bolt is fairly more significant. If I were in your shoes, I would be happy with $2250. Just my 2c. |

Thx guys, a lot of good opinions here! Do you know if this is considered a closed loop cooling system?

It's a hybrid closed loop that can be opened unlike the closed "h" series coolers. So I guess it could be considered an open loop since it can have other parts added into it.

If you want to get anything over $2,000 for it... you're best bet is throwing it on Reddit's /r/hardwareswap. From there, you can get people's honest opinions on what it's worth. You'll see plenty of other people selling water cooling parts, builds, parts, etc.. to give you a better idea of what things sell for.
The problem is, just as bprat said. You're a stranger to people. Buying used storage is not really something anyone should ever do. And you never know how well people treated the system while they owned it. Just because you claimed you took great care of it with little use, doesn't mean you did. I know it's hard to believe, but people lie... especially on the internet. All, in all... I'll agree with bprat. That Titan X can be outpowered by a much cheaper 1070 or 1080. It's a slim build, so upgrading is going to be quite difficult. You'll be lucky to get $2,500. But I do believe you should be able to get some where between $2,000-$2,500. Simply use pcpartpicker to find current pricing for all parts brand new. List how old it is, and that everything is still under manufacturers warranty. List as $2,500 but open to reasonable offers. And try your best to not entertain anything under $2,000 until a couple of months went by and you're ok with it. But I think you should get between $2,000-$2,500. Just like a car. Under 2 years old and barely worth half the value. I'm sorry. =/ |
