I have looked at the RIING RGB fans on Thermatake's site and they require a controller instead of software. I understand the RIING fans that are a static color could work with Digital Storm hardware / software for temp control. Could the color changing ones work as well ?

I'm gonna guess No. if you connect the fans to the mobo headers the you can control them via bios or your own software. One does not need digital storm software to control fans.
Now in your case your fans have 4 pin and 5pin connectors and you need its own controller to control it, unless you want to do some rewiring, which would involve cutting the wires. |

no, that's the problem with these fans-the controller is self-contained in each (3-pack) fan(s). you'd have to manually (open up the case and go into it) change the colors of each 3-fans grouping whenever you desire a different color. what it needs is an IR operated controller. and since the 5-pin config is proprietary i don't think you can even plug these fans directly into a 3 or 4-pin mobo header. you have to use the controller because it houses the 4-pin pwm connection to the mobo.

okay, i just watched youtube vid on these fans and you can directly plug the fan into the mobo or psu and the fan will work, but the LED won't.

looks like they have a 2nd Gen on the way with more features and software to control the fans: http://community.thermaltake.com/index.php?/topic/49187-new-thermaltake-digital-fan-controller-with-riing-rgb-software/
and from Computex: http://computex2016.thermaltake.com/news_view_th_531_3.html Edited by db188 - 16 Jul 2016 at 3:02pm |

Good finds db
The 4th pin on the 5pin is the one that controls the color. Edited by DST4ME - 17 Jul 2016 at 2:29pm |
