We take every issue very seriously, and we wanted to offer a way for our high-end builds to arrive to our customer in safe and sound condition. I would like to announce our special custom designed wooden crates. If any customer would like to request this with their purchase, it's an additional $274 (which includes the price of the crate and its massive shipping rate.

They are, but, sometimes UPS does manage to go crazy on them and we wanted to offer the extra protection. |

In my day job I order lots of IT material so I get to see UPS, Fedex and DHL at their finest. As a whole they are all pretty good with keeping packages in one piece. Yet there is always that one personnel that would destroy a package no matter what it is wrapped in or with; however your new Crate may be able to withstand whatever they throw at it short of a small nuclear blast. |

That's awesome, The UPS guy who delivered my DS rig kicked it off the back of his truck. He didn't know I saw him until I came out of my front door screaming "What the **** do you think you're doing?!" I made him wait for half an hour while I opened and inspected it after that. It was in good shape still because of the hard foam you guys box it with, but I would have liked to have the crate anyway lol.....

Yeah, UPS can get pretty crazy. When someone spends over $5,000 on their purchase, the last thing they want is a damaged computer. Having a few thousand dollars worth of equipment isn't as assuring as having it all double packed in a nice strong wooden crate.

UPS is abysmal, but they're very cost-effective when it comes to volume-shipping with a good tracking system so I certainly don't blame you for using them. They're an industry standard. Plus, I'm sure that's the reason you are enabled to offer free shipping. Hey, at least it's not DHL.
I'd like to take a break from building and buy one of your systems in the future (most likely end of the 07 season so I have time to save up). I don't suppose you guys offer a FedEx option? I don't mind spending quite a bit more for professionally delivered and cared-for packaging and shipping, but I don't know if I'd spread out $300 for the crate (which is awesome, don't get me wrong). I just ship most of my hardware components when building via high-end FedEx delivery and they arrive in almost untouched-levels of condition. I'd be willing to pay in accordance with the increase in shipping since I know it would be outside your conventional UPS system. Edited by CapnBiggles - 08 Aug 2007 at 12:35pm |

Not right now, but, later on yes, currently we don't want to confuse customers into thinking they need this.
Imagine how it would feel to have a black wooden crate with the Digital Storm logo in RED sitting on your drive way.

I agree, UPS has some of the worst business practices. They don't even require a signature for delivery. A few years ago I ordered a Dell Ultra Sharp 21" FP and UPS dropped it off at the house and just left it on the front porch since I wasn't there to receive it. Leaves a $1000.00 monitor on the porch for the world to see... idiots! It's a sad irony that UPS is extremely strict and regimented with their employees about their trucks, yet they treat customer's merchandise the way they do. I live in San Antonio, Tx and UPS down here will fire the driver that just scratches one of their vehicles. But, please don't hesitate to punt my package off the back of your truck because you're too lazy to make two trips. Good old American work ethic at its finest.
I would gladly use Fed-Ex if you had them. Edited by EdH63 - 15 Sep 2007 at 1:59pm |

I wished I would have been told you would ship Fedex. I asked and was told no, that's not an option. I sure hope my system comes to me undamaged. I would gladly pay extra for Fedex. At least I know they will GET a signature. UPS justs dumps it and leaves even if a signature required block option is used. I hate ups delivery. And foget DHL. Just as bad.
Everythng I have had shipped via fedex in the past has been a successful, uneventful event.
I am taking off work for delivery of my computer. The guy won't have a chance if I see him kicking my system off the truck into the driveway. I'll be standing there watching every move.

The DSO Extreme Crate is pretty cool looking, and if I were ordering a $5K computer, I would fork over the extra $100 for it. However, from what I've read here, the Crate doesn't really address the problem of machines arriving dead, near death, or at least critically wounded.
Except for one guy with a big dent in the top of his case (bummer!), all the problems seem to be shock and vibration related. It's not very glamorous, but "shipping methods" would be near the top of my list when we get around to Alex's discussion group.

Well being that I live in the midwest, I would seriously consider the crate.
1.) Someone posted that they threw away their old shipping box and it cost about $50 to ship it back for a repair or an upgrade.
2.) It looks cool and I could use a footstool while I game, not to mention the above shipping horror stories.
3.) For me having limited tech. knowledge. I will be requesting that DS service my machine as far as upgrading in the future.
(why buy a Lamborghini, and let Mr. Goodwrench under the hood?)

Believe it or not, we have had issues with Fed Ex as well. UPS is the biggest and they move the most packages, I have seen it where it's mainly who ships the most gets the most blame. But, hey, we are looking at other options in the future though. As always, customer service is our highest priority.

That crate looks nice and i would love to have my comp shipped in it but the fact that its almost $300 is why i cannot get it, hopefully the price will drop "ALOT" when i order my system and if it does then i will definitely get it. |

I had received a new TV in great condition in the mail a few days ago. This TV came from China and I live in the US. It was double boxed. It had to have amounted to a half inch or more of corrugated cardboard all around it. It was also taped, stapled and banded with two bands. Styrofoam supported the TV from shifting inside. I’m thinking that this method of packaging would be cheaper than the wooden crate. It may not be as strong as a solid wood crate but it would still be stronger than a single box with just tape. Could DS double box their computers for shipment? Edited by gameon - 01 Dec 2007 at 8:40pm |

No comment? Dang, I thought this was a good idea too. Especially for those people who want a new computer shipped to the other side of the world. |

We can do that for customers. The ammount of foam we use, etc, does not really require the need to double pack them, but, we are always open to customer requests. |

Has this been proven to be an efficient protective crate or no one tried this yet? I want this for the following Shipping Route:
Digital Storms - New York, USA - Kuwait, KUWAIT
So is this an efficient protective crate or not? If not I will not order from digital storms (not paying an extra $300 for shipping from USA - Kuwait if you cannot 100% guarentee me protection) if ok, then I will buy a desktop from you guys.
