Prices are $10 over MSRP of $230 right now, except for XFX whish is $20 because of their better warranty. The XFX Black Edition with an overclocked default clock is $40 over.

I guess the starting price for the 8GB models is indeed $239, not $229 as reported earlier, so the GPUs are selling for MSRP for the most part.

Looks like they're pricing the RX 480 to be aggressive against the Maxwell cards.  The 480, from benches I've seen, tests about equal to the gtx 970, better in some games.  At that price, its a compelling purchase for those that don't mind an AMD card.

I'd say an AMD card is better "future-proof" than Nvidia cards, at least when it comes down to adaptive-syncing. Nvidia has been stubborn to admit that G-sync will die off in the future now that both AMD and Intel has adopted an open-standard that is now even incorporated into the DisplayPort standard.

The only disappointing part about the RX 480 for me is the performance/watt ratio. Pascal is clearly leading in that regard, but I'll hold my absolute judgement until I see a successor to the R9 Nano, which is/was a force in performance/watt.

But yes, price/performance wise, it is an excellent value. Nvidia has had to push the GTX 1060 launch forward a month because of this, and according to some, it has cause issues in the supply pipeline because there is still a large stock of GTX 950 and 960 cards in the channel. I'd expect to see heavily discounted 950 & 960 cards soon.

The 1060 is gonna beat the 480 for the same/better price.

I would wait a little bit since there could be some issues with GPU power draw.

Its about 2 to 6 fps better than the 970 gtx, the 1060 is gonna kick its butt up and down the street for the same price range.
