Budget: 2000-2100; have all my accessories already.

Expectations:
I have a dell 23" 1980x1080 monitor which I'm content with that I got with my first DS. I currently have an ODE level 3 from 2011 that's starting to get a bit sluggish, even while running random old stuff, so I suppose it's time?

Usage:
Gaming, BF1, WoW, maybe other things in future?

Looking at: Thinking apollo level 2 right now, but maybe there's a better way to configure things.

Thanks for your time thou that are more tech savvy :)

Hi Wipeout.....  I tweaked the Apollo level 2....

Changed the psu to the Gold version for another $34, and its much longer warranty and fully modular wiring.

Swapped the SSD and HDD to more reliable and/or longer warranty,

Swapped the DS branded cpu for the Corsair and its warranty beyond the DS one.

It's a bit more, but better picks.

I also have my ODE from 2011 with its 2500k cpu, etc.  I dropped in a gtx 970 and it games great with my Dell U2311H monitor, 1080p monitor.   You could put in a gtx 1070 and be good to go.  But, after 5 plus years, I too am getting a little anxious  for a new rig.     The card will suffice, but a new rig is nice.

Hope this helps. Big%20Smile

Thanks bprat22! I appreciate the comments to help me understand your changes. I think we have the same monitor too haha. Fair bit of money hmm, decisions decisions

How come you picked the 1070 you did? And is the overlock a difference much?

With the games you mentioned the gtx 1060 will play great.   Thr gtx 1070 is for some of the more demanding games if you ever wanted to play them on highest settings, plus games will only get harder on the gpu. But, the 1060 is a decent pick. The 1060 is a little stronger than my gtx 970, and some heavier shooters, Witcher 3, etc do require me to tweak some settings down.   Still makes for excellent gaming, but might have to replace it in a year or two.

Overclocking the CPU does give you a few extra frames, especially on the minimum fps which is where the blurring occurs. But, it's not as critical as a few years ago, today's cpus using its factory Turbo speed across all the cores. My old school thinking is, a gaming rig should be overclocked, but it's really not a deal breaker difference.

Just realized, your question about the 1070 might've been why the EVGA ACX and not the default 1070... because EVGA has great customer support and the ACX has better cooling, zero fan rpm below a certain temp, about 64c, etc.

Bprat22, how far do you think a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 G1 will take me, since we have the same ODE :)

if you don't need everything maxed out in gaming, like me because it still looks great, then the 1060 should be good for 2-3 years. High vs ultra settings takes a lot more video power with only small visual difference, at least from my perspective.
