Budget:
2.5 - 3k for just the computer. I can go for up to 4k or more(within reason) if needed but would prefer not to so I can have nice periferals. Expectations: I wish to run anything 1440p at 60+fps to 4k at least somewhere in the 30ish range. 60fps is preferable. Can play videos well & boot fast. Last at least 5 years without needing to upgrade. Obviously needs to be fast. Usage: Gaming. Mostly heavily modded bethesda games(fallout 4) however I have quite a few really demanding games that I cannot play(like the witcher 3, metro, & a few others). Special Needs: -While I did some research, I am not confident in my choice of mother board & power supply for maximum performance. I want to drain every drop of performance out of the cpu & gpu. -Longevity. For what I need, I know I will be fine with a 1k-1.5k rig but I really do want to use this for a very(very very) long time. the idea is to spend a lot now & slowly upgrade it when I can no longer play at 30fps 1440p with decent(like medium on skyrim) settings. - Silence. I also need this machine to be quite while maintaining good thermals( Please note that while I don't want the components to thermal throttle, I live in Mass so heat will be a boon. Also I don't want to sweat in the summer tho). I don't think that the place I will set this puppy up will have amazing air flow either as it is under an unmovable desk next to a wall(tho I can move it up). To get 4K consistently above 30 FPS and approaching 60 FPS, you will want dual 980 Ti GPU's.
You will get more ventilation around the GPU with the Velox case than adding holes to the side of the Apollo. That's an excellent build you were shown and he addresses some of my suggestions which are.... If you stay with your build, change the Seagate HDD to the Western Digital Black for another $19. A more reliable drive with double the warranty.
Change the 750watt B1 for the other EVGA 750 watt if you stay with single card. It's a more efficient supply with much better warranty. Go at least 850watt for sli or the 1000watt you were shown. Change the Digital Storm cooler for a Corsair 240mm or the 280mm. Corsair has a 5 year warranty. DS cooler might be just the year or two with their one Warranty. Drop the noise reduction level 2. No place in Apollo or Velox for sound deadening material. Good luck. |

Duly noted. What case offers enough space for the noise reduction lvl 2. Say I stick with a single 980ti strix. I want the best fallout experience, I can run other games at lower settings and resolution since it will look good anyway. Does anyone know what will run Skyrim at 4k/2k with modded texture. I know a gtx 780 can run skyrim at 4k. I know I am not limited by the cpu either.

in all honesty if you're thinking about adding sound deadening material to a case you might as well choose the Slade as it it designed with acoustics in mind and comes factory installed with the material (padding, anti vibration mounts, etc.) to assist in that regard. they've also designed its thermal performance around its acoustic performance. while it won't ever be mentioned in the same breath with other top thermal performers, it can do an adequate job as long as you choose the right components to put in it.
you can remove the middle hard drive cages for better airflow from the front intake fans over the graphics cards. i would recommend going with reference cards as well for their cooler design (blows hot air out of the case thru the rear I/O area). |

I have a Slade case with a single NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB with no heating issues at all so far. I loose some of the noise reduction because I opted for the 240mm radiator and it has to be mounted to the top in which case you have to remove the top panel and sound dampening material.
Of course as I have always said I didn't buy it for its noise reduction features so I am very happy with it so far. |

it's fine for 2-card sli. like i said, you can remove the middle hard drive cage if the cards are long and/or for better air flow. if you get the reference cards the hot air will blow out the back of the computer and never enter the case. you can probably get away with 2 Strix Edition cards as well if you mount a side fan on the inside of the panel (i know the case has mounts for 1 or 2 120mm fans). you might have to play around with fan speeds, perhaps run them at higher rpm, to get good temps, but the case is really quiet even when running the fans at 100%as long as you don't open it up.
