First thing id check out is the cards temps under load
E8500@ 4.03Ghz

Yeah thats good temps for the GPU. You seem to have a quirky computer =/. Reminds me of an old custom computer i had a long time ago

I think at this point Harleyman, you have the reached the stage where it's time to take matters into your own hands with regard to a recovery disk.

What I suggest: Head out to your nearest Staples or Office Max, and pick up a copy of Acronis True Image Home edition, along with a couple of blank DVD RW's. If you happen to have a Lightscribe DVD RW, you could even etch your own DSO logo onto the disk. Newegg also offers this software.

 It'd be great if the recovery disks that came with these systems always worked, but since they don't, spend the $29. It's worth it.

why did you switch from 8800gtsx2 to GTX, did you switch this by yourself or did DSO do it?
the temps on the card are fine, the 3dmark scores seem a bit low, but now low enough to yield the type of problems youre talking about. does the same thing happen in other games?
things i would try:
run 3d mark looped overnight, see if everything goes well
install a slightly older video driver version, instead of the most recent one

as much as it pains me to say it, if you are having offbeat problems like that, the last thing i woud do is copy your HDD image... think about it.
when i first got my DS rig, i had some wierd crashing and BSOD problems, my first thought was the recovery disk, but if you stop and think... all that does is return your computer to the -exact- same state after recopying... much better plan is to either get a small external HDD or some dvd-rws and back up vital files (saved games, pictures, etc) but start completely fresh
 
as far as the driver versions go, i would just try taking 1 step back over and over until you see stability
 
*also* is this card overclocked?

the idea about trying another game is to narrow down the problem to see if it is acually the game or a software conflict causing it.

Do the Ultras really run that hot?  My 8800GTS 512 idles at 45 and has never been over 55 under load. I am running 1680x1050 with the fan set at 65% using riva.

Ive seen ultras run hotter before, I didnt search as much as i could of, but i believe they can go as hot as 90C before they start to run into trouble.
