Hi all!

Anyone ever experience slow boot up after a black out or brown out? I was playing a game on my system when all the electricity turned off--I have a surge protector. After I turned the computer on, the Windows 10 boot up became very slow--about 2 minutes. Then when I get to the desktop, I click on an app and it lags. For example, I click on my Steam app and it takes like 3 minutes to load. After about 10 minutes the comp seems to be working just fine. It's the boot up process that takes a while now Any suggestions? Thanks!

Unplug your rig from the wall and hold in the power on button for several seconds to purge the system of any lingering faults. Plug back in and try it.

If still an issue, go into Control Panel , type Test Memory in search box and run it from the list on the left, generally .   Basically, test your ram for defective.

Go into Task Manager and see if anything is running in the background hogging your resources.

Unplug any drives except your boot drive to isolate a bad drive.

Unplug your LAN cable from the PC that goes to the modem/router and see if the lag vanishes.

Run anti virus and run Malwarebytes .   Run CCLeaner.

couple of other things:

in the search field type: "cmd", right click on it and select "run as admin"

a couple of commands to run are:

"sfc/ scannow" for system file checking for errors
"CHKDSK C: /F" to auto fix drive errors on C drive (you can change the drive letter for additional drives).

I'm also trying chkdsk /r now. It is taking FOREVER. After 10% the screen has gone black and the power button is no longer lit. Jeez. Hope this works. Thank you!

Hey! I fixed my problem but I can't remember if it was because I reinstalled my OS or because I replaced my RAM. I did those around the same time because besides Windows booting slow I was also dealing with blue screens caused by faulty RAM.

If you have multiple RAM sticks, try booting with only one of them and unless the problem is fixed try the next one. If that doesn't fix it reinstall Windows. Good luck.

Reinstalling windows should always be a last resort, many times after reinstall people have teh same problem still, if you can't find the conflict/problem then it will remain till you do, once in a while you get lucky and reinstall will clear something and fix your problem.

@rjazz2 let us know how the check disk went, after we checked the disk maybe we can check the sectors also with /r
