Topic: Sound Blaster Z question Posted: 01 Jan 2017 at 2:49pm |
As a neophyte to custom rigs, I have a question about my sound card. When I plug my gaming headphones into the audio card slots, the only sound I get is through my monitor speakers, not my headphones.( I confirmed that I was using the correct receptacles.) When I plug my phones into the MoBo, I get decent sound in my headphones and the monitor speakers are silent. I paid for a sound card, how do I get it started? Thanks in advance.

Couple of things...
Right click your sound icon in task bar , playback and make sure its selected as your source. Download the latest drivers from the manufacturer and install them. You can also go to Device Manager, right click the card, uninstall , reboot and let OS install it. Hope this helps. |

So tonight the ghost in the machine changed my sound default from card to MoBo. Despite the recommendations in this thread I can't seem to make the Sound Blaster card work. I welcome suggestions.

Is the SB showing in Device Manager ? If so, right click it, uninstall, reboot and let OS reinstall it. Then select it in audio Control Panel .
Could be a recent update messed it up. Use System Restore and go back to an earlier point if one is saved. Good luck. |

Wouldn't he need to disable the onboard sound in the device manager so it doesn't potentially cause conflicts? I'm not sure how stuff like this works nowadays with the newer Windows, but back in the day I seem to recall having to sometimes disable the hardware on the motherboard(graphics, audio, etc.) in the device manager if I was going to strictly use a dedicated PCI alternative. |

I have seen a graphics card Nvidia audio drivers conflict with mobo onboard Realtek, but not onboard conflicting with a dedicated sound card. Not that it can't happen and I'm sure it has fixed some issues so it's worth a try. Problem is that Realtek will probably reinstall / re-enable whenever you reboot.
Good tip and worth trying, though. Edited by bprat22 - 29 Jun 2017 at 2:38pm |
