Budget:
3K Expectations: A stable machine that will easily handle all new games for more than 2-3 yrs. Usage: Typical internet and multi media use but like a good shoot 'em up game on occasion. Special Needs: Nothing special. Want to make sure it can display graphics at a high level but have only 1 screen system so single card should do. Saved Ticket #: 1262199 Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Digital Storm Apollo Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 6700K 4.0GHz (Codename Skylake) (Unlocked CPU) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS Z170-A (Intel Z170 Chipset) System Memory: 16GB DDR4 2800MHz Corsair Dominator Platinum DHX (Extreme-Performance)
Power Supply: 850W EVGA SuperNOVA Expansion Bay: Internal Digital Media Card Reader (Black) Optical Drive: Blu-Ray & DVD Writer/Reader (Burn + Play Blu-Ray & DVDs) (12x BD-R) Storage Set 1: 1x SSD (240GB Intel 730 Series) Storage Set 2: 1x Storage (2TB Western Digital - Black Edition) Storage Set 3: - No Thanks RAID Config: - No Thanks RAID Card: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Graphics Card(s): 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB (Includes PhysX) Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster Z HPC Processor: - No Thanks Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Digital Storm Vortex 240mm Radiator Liquid CPU Cooler (Extreme-Performance Edition) H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a custom HydroLux liquid cooling system selected Chassis Fans: Upgrade All Fans to Corsair Airflow Performance Edition (Up to 6 Fans) Internal Lighting: Remote Controlled LED Lighting System (Multiple color options and lighting effects) Airflow Control: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks LaserMark: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Stage 1: Overclock CPU 4.0GHz to 4.4GHz Boost Graphics Card(s): - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system ******************************************************* Heard good things about the Skylake/Z170 combo so went with a pumped up Apollo Level 2 configuration. I believe in over buying my needs so I don't out grow my new computer any time soon. With that said, I don't want to waste money so I have a few questions. 1) ASUS vs GIGABYTE MB 2) 240GB Intel 730 Series vs 500GB Samsung 850 EVO. Read that the new SSD cards in a hybrid configuration with another card uses the SSD as cache. Would it be of greater benefit to have higher SSD capacity? 3) What is the difference between the WD hard drive Black and Enterprise editions? 4) Is the added sound card needed or is the one on the newer MB adequate? 5) Does the upgraded fans really make a difference? Are they louder? Just had another blue screen crash this morning so I'm ready to take the plunge. Any answers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

First, it would be good to know what monitor resolution you are planning on playing at.

Here you can see fps ratings for several games under 1080p. Some of them go well into the 100s while others dip down to 40. To me, it seems like a 980 Ti might be overkill for playing in 1080p. A plain GTX 980 would probably work fine for most games, but if you're willing to spend tons of extra money, then might as well get the GTX 980 Ti Strix Edition. That should handle games well even 3 years from now. |
