So i'm hoping you guys can help me out with an issue i am having even though it doesn't involve DS
So i have an RT-N66R and its been working fine since Christmas, well i noticed i had a firmware update so i did the update. I'm actually a firm believer if it ain't broke don't fix it well i wasn't thinking....needless to say after i did the update i guess it bricked, cause when i tried to connect to the internet later it said No Internet Access. I did a restore/ factory reset and still no go. I thought something was wrong with my modem but when i connected my modem to my computer my internet works. Can y'all help me?? |

Hi Arkansas.... Your first thought to not fix but isn't broke is correct, but we all just can't resist at times.
Try unplugging it and leaving it off for an hour or so and then try it. If you get to where you can try it again, disable virus programs first if updating off the web. A different browser might also help. After that, I got nothing. I've never updated a router. |

Hi ArkansasWoman777,
Well aren't you the lucky one. I am running 1.0 on the BIOS on my motherboard and they are up to 1.7. Everything works and not updating until there is a serious problem. People with the newer BIOS are having problems of one type or another. So now you have missed a great excuse to update your router/computer to 802.11AC. Frank |

Great news , Arkansas.
Yeah, these electronic contraptions sometimes need to be completely wiped of any lingering charge to reset. I've also heard that Asus routers don't update the driver you think, but takes them in stages, older to new, and takes a number of updates. No experience personally but that's the rumor. Enjoy....and leave it alone. |

Interesting, I'm going to have to test that out next time I update my router (I have the some model as Arkansas). But, that might be awhile. |

Glad to hear it's working for you now, Arkansas.
For future reference, Asus wireless routers also come with a CD that has an application for doing a factory recovery of a router should something go wrong during an update. You can download it from their site as well (though not, of course, once you bricked things. ). So long as you have that on hand before doing a firmware update, you should be able to do a recovery of the router and start over. Also, I'm using a custom firmware for my RT-AC68U router that adds some nice features but is based on Asus' firmware, called Asuswrt-Merlin. The firmware is available for many different models, and I believe yours is one of them. I've done multiple firmware updates since I started using it and have not had any issues so far. It's been smooth sailing. |

The real question is, why are you using factory firmware? I only user custom firmware for my routers.
Merlin firmware for ASUS routers is the way to go. Not the buggy, sh*tty ASUS firmware. |
