Hello everyone. I was wondering if going into
msconfig->boot->changing the number of processors (shows 8 for me) will have a bad effect. Also, if I choose 8 processors what will that do?

don't bother with that, all that will do is suppose to help your boot time, but if it does its because your startup list needs to be edited cause you have lot of BS at startup, if your startup list is clean and simple, changing the cores at msconfig will/should do nothing for you.

how clean your startup list is and what speed you HDD is will have a bigger difference in startup time then changing the cores, also you don't have 8 cores you have 4 HT makes your OS think it has 8.

Would it be bad to have it set for the 4 cores anyway?

I would just leave it alone, it might cause problem when trying to trouble shoot if something goes wrong. Its one of those pointless tweaks that I wouldn't even call a tweak, because its not.
