So just the other day I received my new Vanquish 3 Level 4 computer. This computer is a beast, however I have one huge problem and it is the CPU Cooler.
Installed is a Zalman CNPS5X cooler. And from the minute I turned the machine on, it lets out a pretty distinct rattle noise. I opened up the machine when it was off, and it looks like the fan has a little wobble to it, resulting in the rattle. Also, I should mention, when I tilt the computer to the right about 15 degrees the rattle completely stops. Very strange. Has anyone had this issue with this cooler, or does this seem like I have a defective cooler, versus this being a common issue? |

Sounds like a bad fan. You can try pushing in the center hub of the fan and see if it clicks in. Hold the fan with one hand while pushing in with the other.
Make sure the fan is clipped to the cooler squarely. Maybe unclip it and remount it. Good luck. |

Tried that, pushed as hard as I felt comfortable, no audible "click". Tried to remove the fan, and again no success.

I don't have any hands-on with that cooler, but the pic looks like it and the shroud would lift up and off the heatpipes on top, but thats a guess.

I decided to check the BIOS and he fan config had the fan running at 100% all the time. I changed the setting to gradually increase fan speed based on temp, and the rattle is gone.

If it only rattles on high then that's a good workaround.. I'd still get in touch with DS about getting a replacement fan.
Good Luck. |
