Is it worth the extra level for the double RAM and GTX 980 over the 970? The processor is the same i5 6600K so is the upgrade even necessary for my needs? Any help would be much appreciated. Hi Kroman1975....Welcome to the forums.
The level 3 is best bang for your buck. For 1080p , I personally don't think the level 4 is worth the extra $250, but if someone has the money, any increase in performance does help. If you game on a higher resolution, the 980 helps a bit more. 8GB ram is all gaming needs for the most part and the 980 is only about 10-15% stronger for 1080p. Adding ram in the future is relatively inexpensive and easy to do. I haven't looked into Occulus Rift yet. Here's a link to help you decide. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1595?vs=1442 If things are tight, the level 3 will perform great. I have a 970 and play everything on max, except Witcher 3 hairworks, The level 4 does give you more headroom for those extra few fps. Hope this helps. Edited by bprat22 - 20 Jan 2016 at 6:58am |

Cool, thanks a lot. One more thing, do you see any issues with this rig running Oculus VR stuff that's upcoming? Thanks again.

If you do any multimedia stuff with photos and HD video, then the extra RAM will definitely come in hand. Plus is gives a bit more future proofing of your system.
The bottom line is what's your budget and how comfortable you are updating your rig in the future. |

It's easy enough adding RAM and I would eventually make updates in the future. I just wanted to find the best jumping off point for the price. Thanks!
