Budget:
[1500-2600, would appreciate the lower cost though]

Expectations:
[Honestly the most intense game I will play is Total War for now, but maybe in the future something will comeout that I'm interested in. ]

Usage:
[Primarily Gaming]

Special Needs:
[i7 with skylake and wifi adapter]

Okay so basically I am wondering whether I should get a Vanquish Tier 4 ($1599) vs Apollo tier 2 (Around $2200). The main difference between the two is that I can get an i7 with the 980 versus an i5 processor, AND the most important part, a PCI wifi adapter. However, I might consider the Vanquisher if you guys think that an i5 with a USB wifi adatper is good enough? Not sure though, as I will be playing competitive online games that are reliant on ping. Also: I am considering getting a 970 instead of a 980 on an Apollo, because the games I am playing right now will not be so graphically intensive. Advice please? My config also includes a moniter which I need as well, please feel free to add suggestions on that too.

Best bang for your buck will definitely be the Vanquish lvl 4. Buy a Pcie wifi card and install it yourself if you feel comfortable. It is pretty easy. Just slides in.

The Apollo you built does give you a better motherboard and power supply.

An i5 for gaming is just fine.

I use a USB wifi dongle with no problem, but not for online gaming.

Yeah, a PCI is a necessity for me, but if I can install and it seems pretty easy, the 600 dollars in savings are worth it lol.

That's the way I would go. Check for YouTube videos if you want to see the install.

If I can do it...

Before I buy, any suggestions on the monitor? Was thinking of getting the Asus with 2 ms response rate.

I haven't checked out monitors in a few years. Maybe others can help.

I can say that IPS is the best pic quality, color, etc but TN gives faster response.

It really depends on what resolution you want and what fps you want to get.

DS does not announce upcoming sales and events.

But these things come and go pretty regularly.

stay away from usb wifi, they're trash.  you're best off going with a TP Link Archer dual band ac1900 pcie add-in card, or the Asus one (more expensive).  Rosewill has a decent one at the lower end.

monitors on the other hand are kind of hard to cover (there are so many choices).  in general, for the average pc gamer, fast/cheap TN panel monitors at 1080p are the norm.  if you've purchased more vid card than a GTX 970, i'd suggest looking into 1440p TN panel monitors in the 120-144 GHz range.  you might also look into G-Sync or Adaptive Sync models, depending on whether you have an Nvidia or AMD vid card respectively, or monitors that offer ULMB (ultra low motion blur) tech for better image quality.

if you're a stickler for "true color" and viewing angles, you'll need to look at IPS (and similar) panel tech.  beware, IPS has some of the worst contrast ratios, poorer blacks, and what is known as "IPS Glow" that many mistake for back light bleed.  similar tech to IPS is VA, much better contrast, deeper blacks, etc. but they're usually not as fast as IPS can be.

for product line advice: Acer Predator line of monitors, Asus ROG Swift, Dell Ultra Sharp are some places to start looking.
