Budget:
$1500 for desktop, planning on reusing 4 relatively new sata hard drives (2x1tb, 2x4tb). Planning on purchasing two monitors for 1200 separately. Also budget sound card and speakers will be purchased separately. Expectations: Occasional Gamer, would like good (not top) performance on a budget. Usage: SC II, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, memory intensive database applications Special Needs: Support for 4 data drives in addition to an ssd for os. Saved Ticket #: Configuration Id 1394525 Specifications: 1. Can the Vanquish 5 case, motherboard(Asus z170) and 750w power supply, support 4 sata hard drives in addition to an ssd os drive? |

Case Drive Bays (4) 2.5” (4) 3.5” (3) 5.25”
As far as the motherboard & power supply, you'll need the more tech minded to chime in. |

Thank you CougarX6, based on some online research I see that the motherboard should be able to support 6 sata drives total so I should be ok unless DS does something differently. |

Hi nezzek... If the mobo used , as in the past, is the Asus Z170-k or similar, then you'll have 6 x Sata ports mid-board for drives. That includes your HDD, SSD and any optical drive like a DVD. With your build you dropped the optical and HDD so you can add your drives.
The total of 6x SATA includes the SATA e port which can be used as 2x SATA if no SATA e device. Hope this helps. |

It does bpratt22. Thank you. Is the 750w power supply enough to support my configuration with 4 sata hard drives?

The psu is more than enough. Drives use very little juice, a few watts, and the 750 watt does give you decent overhead. The gtx 970 can run on a 600 watt.

Great. Last question, are the standard case fans on the vanquish 5 case sufficient to cool this config or should I upgrade them and if so which fans do I need. I'm not too concerned about appearance.

The case fans are good, as-is. Worse case, for cooling, best for quality and performance, is they ship a custom card instead of the reference 970. The reference single fan cards dump all the heat out the back and the Strix type, with multi fan, empty the heat into the case. Even with the Strix, and using only one 970, the rig will cool just fine.
When you order, stay in touch and let us know what you think. |

Thank you much. Prior to a few days ago I never heard of DS and have bee pleasantly surprised with everything I've seen and read so far. I just wish they put more details on their standard components, i.e. the case, how many bays, size, fans etc.

Yeah, I hear you. When it comes to the mobo and cards, they do use whatever they can get from their suppliers for the Vanquish to meet demand and so stay a little less specific so they're not locked into a particular model. The performance and quality stays the same or better. Sometimes a Vanquish buyer thinks they're getting a reference 970, for example, but get the 970 Strix for no more money. Not a bad deal.
The case in the Vanquish is the Corsair 230T, if you want to Google it. Have fun. |

Latest Status, my order finally arrived today. Exterior box was undamaged, but the computer had shifted on the inside although no visible damage was seen. I unbox and everything seems ok. Then I look at the video card, not only didn't I get a better video card than the reference card (NVidia 970) I got a worse one, with only 1 display port while the site said it had 3. I call up and eventually get transferred to a tech who says either we (DS) have been installing the wrong cards in the vanquish line or the site is wrong. I explain that the 2 monitors I bought are both gsync monitor hence need display port connections. He agreed but it was after 5pm pacific at the time so he said another person will call me back tomorrow for an RMA. Now I have to ship it back from the east coast (5 business days) then they'll swap the cards, test (3 days) it and ship it again (5 days) so say 3 weeks before I get my pc.
On a side not I was a bit disappointed with the top of the case, while I figure that all the holes are for ventilation it looked so odd that I thought it was the bottom until I turned it over and saw the feet. |

Hi nezzek .....You sure the video card doesn't have black plastic caps covering the monitor ports? They ship like that. Just pop off the caps.
Make sure you're plugging into the video card below rear fan and not motherboard. Just a couple of things that do arise, Good luck. There are cards with only 1 DP, but most have multiple. You're shipping the whole computer back? It's easy to swap cards if they'll ship you a new one. In the past DS would charge you for a card, ship it out and credit the charge when the old one is returned. Edited by bprat22 - 21 Apr 2016 at 2:56am |

What bpratt22 mentions happens a lot but it is not very difficult to do a GPU R&R in case you have to, so you don't have to send the whole system back.

I have no problem swapping out a card but the DS tech was insistent that I ship back the computer. He didn't even mention that I could get the video card shipped.
I got the evga NVidia gtx 970 4gb card. It came with 2 dvi, 1 hdmi, andc 1 ds. The caps were all off which bothered me a little. |

Yeah, EVGA does have 970's with only the single dp. Problem for DS is, most customers would probably rather have the 2 DVI instead of 3 x DP.
Not sure what the fix would be for those ordering, unless they contact DS first and specify what their requirements are. Alex would have to chime in. The top cover being vented isn't unusual for gaming cases. Some worry of spilling something in there or dust collecting, but drinks, as relaxing as they are shouldn't be near the rig. And it would have to be a pretty dusty environment, like a warehouse, for dust to be a problem through the top. Just me. Ask them about getting just the card sent when they call back. Sending the whole rig back would stink. |

I have an issue with it just not being as advertised. Since there are 2 970's one with 3 dp and the other with 1 and 2 dvi just list it in the graphics card drop down and let the buyer choose, even if the price is different, we choose everything else with DS.
As for the case, it makes sense I just thought it just would look better. Never have liquid near my computer, hence the air cooler ;) |

I agree. Their specs could use some work... Some aren't complete and won't scroll down properly.
DS will help you out. |

Hi nezzek,
Sorry to hear about your concerns. We do strive to keep specs as clear and updated as possible, but due to the various types of brands on graphics cards, it can be a challenge at times. To make things easy, it would be better if we simply send you a different graphics card that allow you to connect your monitor. Feel free to send me an email "[email protected]" so I can look into this with the team along with your order number. |

Yes, that would be great but customer service just told me that they don't have the right card and it will take a week and a half to order it and then ship it. CS told me my other option was that I could upgrade to the 980 for $226 or downgrade to the 960 for -$151. I am very frustrated and am feeling mislead not supported. I have a mood to return the whole thing for a refund. I will email you shortly.

nezzek,
I received your email and I have responded. We're working hard on locating a card with three DisplayPorts for you. We will need to place an order with our vendor and wait for it to arrive to us and then for us to send to you. I'm sorry for the situation, we have removed the 3x DisplayPort wording on the GTX 970 on our website. Feel free to stay in touch via email so we can help take care of you. Thanks! |

Alex is making it right, even though the correct card is out of stock they are ordering and sending it directly to me (one hop instead of two) and sending me a return label for the old card. I'll update the thread once I receive it.

Now, aren't you glad you found Digital Storm? They do work hard to correct any issues that pop up. It's all about service in my book.

I agree that it is all about service however I am not sold yet on DS as I had to push hard and make many calls/emails/chats totaling about 15 to get it done right when one call should have been enough. Hopefully in a few days i'll get my card and I can finally boot this machine up and see what it is all about.
Thank you all for your advice and support during this adventure. |

My pleasure.
Adventures can be fun, but nobody wants a new PC with issues. Hopefully the replacement goes fast and smooth for you. You can't use it until the new card? |
