So this just started yesterday, but it has me slightly concerned. A weird clicking sound is coming from, at least it sounds like, the PSU. It isn't constant and stops after a bit or after a reboot. It only seems to start after being on for a few hours, too.
Not my video, but this is what it sounds like. Any idea what to do? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-R-y23zwolU |

Hard to tell from that video.
A couple things you can try: When it is making the noise, gently turn the computer on it's side. If the sound goes away it's probably fan bearings. You can take a long screwdriver and place it to the power supply CASE and put your ear to the handle. This will act like a stethoscope. If the noise is from the power supply, you will know it. NOTE: DO NOT PUT THE SCREWDRIVER AGAINST ANYTHING ELSE LIKE THE VIDEO CARD, MOTHERBOARD ETC ONLY THE POWER SUPPLY CASE! If neither of the above show good results you can see if the power LED flickers in time with the noise, check for a light on the power supply itself and see if that flickers, and last resort unplug things plugged in to the power supply like the HDD (sometimes the culprit here), LED lighting if any, fans (NOT the CPU fan) -one at a time, and see if anything makes a difference. My main thought is something in the P/S is kicking in a protection to keep the P/S from problems but you need to do some isolation to make sure. |

I had a similar problem when I got my lvl 4 vanquish. After a lot of trial and error I eventually figured out it was a loose screw on the back wall of the casing underneath the fan. So my advice would be to make sure all screws are tightened. Hope you solve your problem soon.

Well it doesn't seem there's any loose screws or anything. It worries me a little bit, not sure what to do.

You didn't say whether you tried my suggestions or if you were able to isolate it to the P/S.
I'd suggest getting DS techs on the phone and see what they think. Maybe an RMA is in order but they can guide you on that. |
