Topic: What To Expect Posted: 29 May 2016 at 8:27pm |
Hello,
I am very near to pulling the trigger on a build. 1421256 Question: What can I expect when the rig arrives? Will all drivers be up to date? Will I have to do anything I may not be comfortable with? Yes, I'm not a computer guy. I make my bones negotiating business deals with foreign companies. So, I am very interested in knowing what to get ready for. Will I be able to hit the power button and have everything ready to go, or..? Thanks... |

Hi Denglish... When the rig arrives, you'll probably have to remove the left side panel and remove the internal expansion pac used to protect it in transit. Eyeball the system for anything that seems out of place. Shipping can jolt it, but it usually arrives in great shape.
After that, plug it in and fire it up. Load virus protection, Internet, etc and have fun. Windows might do an update at some point. The video cards probably won't have the latest drivers, but any update can wait until you have played on it for awhile. Better to run it and check it out before doing any updating. Really nothing much to do. Make sure you plug the monitor into the video card and not the motherboard ports near the USB, audio ports. Let us know how it goes. |

QFT ... Please make sure that you're plugged into the GPU. |

Thanks guys. I'm actually thinking about picking it up myself. I live in San Diego, and may make a weekend out of it.
I think I can tell the difference between a USB and GPU port, unless they look alike these days. |

Your mobo does have a Display Port and HDMI port for the igpu, integrated graphics. Its easy and a common initial issue to hook the monitor to the motherboard port instead of farther down, into the graphics card.
Your 1080 will also have a DP and HDMI port, hence the confusion. |

Luckily, I'm right here in the Bay Area so I got to pick mine up. Say "hey" to the guys in the back and remember, when you pull into the lot, the first door is receiving, the second, shipping. |

I grew up in Milpitas. Haven't been "up there" in years.
