I have the V2L4 from 2014.. a good little budget build with Asus H81M-E, i5 [email protected], 16Gb RAM DDR3 and a GTX770... and I want to drop in the GTX1070. I've been waiting for the prices to settle and beside the occasional hiccup now and then, it looks like the time is about right.
So, here's my dilemma... which one? EVGA boasts the following: GTX 1070 Founders Edition GTX 1070 ACX 3.0 GTX 1070 SC ACX 3.0 GTX 1070 FTW ACX 3.0 GTX 1070 FTW DT ACX 3.0 All 1070s, yet some are a bit faster, some have dual bios, etc etc... My CPU is a 3.20Ghz, i5 4570.... not exactly the strongest tool in the shed so I was wondering if all the other bells and whistles matter. I mean if the performance on my 1440 and 1080 monitors is going to be the same no matter which GTX I get, I might as well save some money for games, no? |

I would get all six and send back the ones you don't like.
Or, off the top without much bench comparison, I'd get the SC . It comes with a small oc, a nice backplate. Only $20 more for the ftw, but not a big gain. Benches I have seen show only a few fps difference between them, the most gain being when you do your own oc. Even though EVGA is the darling of the forums, I would look seriously at the MSI gamer 8G. When checking out the gtx 970, the MSI received better reviews, better temps and great reliability compared to the others. Their support, which sells EVGA, is an unknown to me. |

What games are you looking play Snaike?
If you tell me the games we can check and see how much fps 1070 pulls on it. at 1080p it will kill anything you got, for 1080p we recommend 1060 so you get the idea. at 1440p we do recommend the 1070. In games like witcher/farcry/gta it does around 65fps. So if you are just looking for 60fps then the 1070 stock will give it to you. If you are looking to be way above 60 fps, then I would just oc the stock 1070 or go with sc. Personally I would not get the SC if you want an oc one and wait for the Classic version of 1070. MSI has terrible customer svc. Edited by DST4ME - 30 Aug 2016 at 7:08am |

I figured that would get a response. Hopefully I never have to find out. |

That was my train of thought... just a generic 1070 without all the buttons and whistles. Games I play? Shadow of Mordor, Witcher, Fallout, Skyrim, Mad Max etc... big open worlds, not too "twitchy". About the closest I get to FPShooters is World of Tanks, WarThunder, Armored Warfare. I did get an open beta invite for Battlefield 1, though... When I get my AVENTUM that Alex is building special for me then we'll worry about tricking everything out.... But for now, for my pokey little game center, I'll just drop in a reasonably priced 1070. Thanks guys. |
