Checked this morning, but they hadn't downloaded yet. Checked a few minutes ago and there are now 6.5GB of update files waiting in the hidden C:\$Windows.~BT folder.
Should be ready to update tomorrow, but I'm not going to let it do so yet. |

Today's the day for Windows 10. As of yesterday at 4 pm, no downloaded files.
Haven't decided if I'll do it today or not. Probably. |

In all my years, I've never updated an OS with an existing computer. I've always moved up when I moved on to a new machine. (Which explains why I ran XP so long on my last machine.)
This time, I'm going to try to be on this on the first day. Updating as soon as it's ready. |

Looks like DS already has the Windows 10 Home edition in the configurator. I wonder if the Pro version will be offered.

I'm going to do the update rather than a clean install too, first time for me as well. But I'm waiting a while to do it...unless temptation gets the better of me. |

I think I'm going to wait a bit before doing the upgrade, just to make sure all the kinks are worked out. I'm wanting to do the upgrade as opposed to a clean install myself too... just amazed that you don't have to reinstall anything. Hopefully it works out ok. |

Yes, that's pretty much my reasoning as well. I've read two in-depth reviews last night and this morning... http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/07/review-windows-10-is-the-best-version-yet-once-the-bugs-get-fixed/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+arstechnica%2Findex+%28Ars+Technica+-+All+content%29 http://www.maximumpc.com/windows-10-review/">http://www.maximumpc.com/windows-10-review/...and both recommend waiting 1-2 months for kinks to be worked out. On a separate note, while the files are on my hard drive, I have yet to be notified that I'm ready for the upgrade. When I use the little icon in the system tray to "Check your upgrade status," it says that Windows 10 is still being verified for my PC. |

Delay is probably a very good thing anyway...Undoubtedly there will be issues to resolve after the upgrade for most of us.
For my DS system using the Sabertooth X79 mobo, ASUS has already slapped a Win 10 compatible logo on the board home page....and the board Drivers downloader has WIN10 32 bit & 64 bit choices listed in the drop-down op-system selector.. For my other DS rig with the Sabertooth P67 mobo, Win 10 is not yet listed.... FYI..as to the free version of Windows 10 you get, if you are running a home version of Win 7 or 8 you get Win 10 Home....and if running 7 or 8 Pro you get Win 10 Pro. |

Also waiting for Windows10 on my DS ODE.
My 8 year old, dual core, Gtx 260 machine installed it on Day 1. Easy install, just sat back and waited. Come on MS. |

Yup, I'm most anxious to get the P67 running on Win10...Good to hear an even older system was updated OK...Clearly this is the MS Op System upgrade we all waited for.

I upgraded my Bolt 3 to Windows 10 this past weekend with only one issue. That being, the display resolution was wrong and Windows would not display the Settings dialog box to change it. A quick Google showed that this was a common issue and pointed me to a patch. All better now

Well, here I am, Windows 10 files sitting on my Krypton since the day before official release, and the update is still not offered. It says my PC is still being validated for Windows 10.
So I finally click the "More Information button rather than the "OK, notify me when ready" button and I'm told that "Critical hardware components made by Intel for your PC don't have drivers for Windows 10 yet. Contact Intel for more information." However, there is zero information as to what components don't have drivers yet. Thanks, Microsoft, you morons. |

According to that chart from Intel, my Intel HD 4600 is supported in Windows 10 x64, so I don't know if that's the issue. |

I've done the Win 10 update on my Krypton. Update was successful and updated the Nvidia and Intel drivers. It was running fine for about 2 weeks; all of a sudden this week, the PC is just shutting down after a few minutes of non-use. I've turned off all settings because I'm on battery power. Trying to figure this out.....

Your Krypton should have come with driver and software discs in a binder. DS doesn't have a software download site that I'm aware of. |

OK, now it's like they're looking for lamer and lamer excuses not to give me the upgrade.
After the discussion above regarding the Intel drivers, I downloaded and installed the latest Intel GPU driver for Windows 8.1. After that I noticed that over the last 4 days Windows Update has been reporting that a Windows 10 upgrade failed on each of those days with an error 80240020. So today I check the little upgrade status app and now there's a new reason for not upgrading me: "Your PC is set up to log in automatically. After upgrade, you may have issues logging in." I don't know what to say anymore. Edited by Roykirk - 22 Aug 2015 at 12:40pm |

I got tired of thinking about it and just went to their site and did it manually. Had a Windows 10 iso burned just in case. But I didn't have any messages of potential problems. No info at all.
What's the worst that can happen ? |

I upgraded via the Media Creation Tool instead of waiting for them to do it. I tried twice with errors before it successfully upgraded. I had to unplug all USB devices to get it to work. Now that I've upgraded, I like Win 10, but I'm still having a shutdown problem. I reloaded all of my drivers and the problem seemed to go away for about 2 days, then I got a Win 10 update and I'm back to it shutting down randomly.
I've been monitoring the heat and everything has been within range, so no overheating and no messages about what could be causing the shutdown in the event viewer. Any ideas where to look? |

Unplug the laptop and remove the battery for a few minutes. Then plug back in and try it. A long shot but it has fixed numerous issues. I'd also try just plugged in, no battery, and vice versa.

Actually, I don't really want to upgrade yet, but I do want to know that I can when I want. So basically, I'm doing a bit of whining. |

Well, I took the battery out. Still get a random shutdown. I re-installed all of the drivers. Still get a random shutdown.
It worked great for about 2 weeks after my initial upgrade to Win 10, but now I'm getting this random shutdown with nothing in the event log. Any ideas? I'm fresh out and I really, really don't want to have to start with a fresh install. |

If db188's suggestion doesn't help I guess my next step would be to use your Windows 10 iso and install again over the one there now. I believe its Win10's version of Repair but not sure. I'm assuming you have it burned to a disc or mem stick.

the #1 cause of laptop shutdowns is dust causing heat issues. you said your heat was within tolerances, but you didn't say that you blew out your air intakes. are you 100% sure you don't have dust build up?

Yep...blew out all the air intakes. Reinstalled Win10 over previous installation. Reinstalled drivers twice. Changed all the power options including creating a custom one that is "balanced". I"m only on wall power, as the battery is still out.
Main drive is Intel SSD, Secondary drive is Crucial SSD and third drive is standard Western Digital disc. Check disk comes back clean. CCleaner doesn't report any registry issues. Memtest was without issues. Have been running Win 7 without any problems; just started happening with Win 10. |

i don't think it's hardware related since you didn't have any issues before upgrading the OS. nor do i think it is a power delivery issue for the same reasons.
can you try setting power options to performance since you're plugged in anyway and change your settings to not allow it to enter sleep mode, remove screen saver options after idle, just keep the thing on at all times and see if it still randomly shuts down on you. there might just be a Windows 10 coding problem that effects those power options and makes the laptop shutdown instead. |

Actually, I rarely take it off of power; it's been on power the whole time.
Update: At least since yesterday's writing, it has now been up without incident. I did nothing new to it since loading the drivers that last time. I do see that a Windows update is ready to be applied and am afraid it may start acting up again once that is done. Looking back at the logs; it appears it started acting up after the last Windows update happened. |

There are updates that have caused various crashing issues with Windows 10. Some in Explorer and some not. MS is working on a fix last I heard, so installing the update might help. Can't say for sure, but I would take the chance.
If you Google Windows 10 crashes you'll see the updates talked about. You also have 30 days to roll back to the old OS. Might be worth a shot. Edited by bprat22 - 25 Aug 2015 at 6:49am |
